"According to the Mexican Geological Survey, mining in the state of Baja California presented a generally favorable growth in the production of
metallic and non-metallic minerals during the period between 1996 and 2001; this reflected favorably in the state’s income. However, since 2001, with
the temporary closure of San Felipe S.A de C.V, a dramatic drop was recorded in the state’s production of gold and silver, ceasing to be an important
state with regard to the production of these metals."
