Tijuana to Loreto & back - Recent trip

MexicoTed - 12-15-2004 at 11:39 PM

Hey Nomads,

As some of you may or may not know, I just returned from a trip to Loreto and back so if anyone has any questions, let me know. I was in Loreto, Mulege, Santa Rosalia, San Ignacio, Bahia de Los Angeles, and El Rosario.

I also spoke about it on the radio show. Roads were in good condition, gas available everywhere except Catavina (only out of cans), and desert greener than I have ever seen it.

Actually everywhere I went was reasonable, just a little more than in San Diego. I did watch the operator in Santa Rosalia as he seemed a little "sneaky" like trying to pry my gas tank lid open before I unlocked it from the inside.

I did, however, run into two different sets of travelers in Catavina (one American & one Canadian group) who counted on gas there only to find the pumps closed. I helped one find a guy selling gas out of the back of a truck. Just don't count on getting it there as he only had one barrell left.

Thanks Ted... Did you listen to the Musica de Baja CD (from BajaGato/Bajaddict) I loaned you?

The fellow in Catavi?a selling from cans is Alfonso. When he runs out, he goes to Baja Cactus (El Rosario) to refill. That's over 150 miles, 3 hours, round trip... he makes only a buck a gallon for this fine service.

I paid $1.99 in San Marcos today (Arco), which means gas is about the same on both sides of the border... Pemex is $1.99 this month (at MN$11.30: 1 dollar)
