Verizon smart phone and Telcel question.

Any way to make a Tel Cel sim card work in my Verizon Kyocera waterproof smart phone? Is it just a camera in Mexico?

Is your phone GSM compatible? Is it unlocked? If not, you have camera. ;)

Seems like maybe I lucked-out.

"But since the Hydro Elite is Global Roaming capable, it also supports GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz and UMTS/HSPA 850/900/1900/2100 MHz networks while overseas." Another site clearly said that the Hydro Elite is unlocked out of the box.

You sure did. Pop the telcel sim and you should be good to go.

Make sure you have the right size SIM card. I believe that phone takes regular SIMs, so make sure the Telcel people give you the right size. Also, if I remember correctly, buying a SIM without a phone requires authorization from Mexico City, so if they hassle you, buy the 1-peso throwaway phone.

I have a 615 sim in my TelCel Nokia "cheapie". Do you know if it will fit? Also, it seems that when I bought the Nolia phone they told me I wouldn't be able to change the area code (sim) make any sense?

When you buy a sim it is tied a specific phone number with area code. Usually the area code of where you bought the sim. For instance, I bought my telcel in mexicalli so I have a 686 area code. You buy a sim online that uses moviestar or lusatel you usually get a Mexico City area code. Long distance charges will apply depending where you are.

For me, I usually use the sim for the data connection and rarely ever use my Mexican number. Using the data lets me make free calls back to the US. However, it does come in handy for making dinner reservations. YMMV.

I think there are 3 sizes of sims out there now. Not sure. Normal, mini, micro.

I'm on the beach right now in Bucerias, MX with an ice cold bucket of beers using my telcel sim on my iPhone 5s. Btw, telcel will be the best coverage and speed.
