Aereo Calafia is the only one. It costs about US$250 r/t (about MX$3000). They fly twice a week. And just like its name implies, it's pretty much a flying bus. You get to check one bag of 15 kg (33 lbs.) and they weigh your carryon at the airport, maximum 5 kg (11 lbs.). Every extra kilo is MX$116 (US$4 per pound) up to 32 kg (70 lbs.)

They actually just added another flight to their schedule, so they now fly Tuesdays, Thursdays & Saturdays. The plane is a regional jet (unlike Alaska which flies out of LAX with a turbo-prop) and generally runs on time. Sure beats driving!

Nah, real bus is better :)... No scales, you can "check in" whatever you like, though I rarely have more than 2 boxes. "Carry on" like a backpack or gym bag you take on the bus. More leg room in the rows. Same price, I believe. Oh yeah, - and they run 5 times a day.

TJ to Loreto isn't $250. on the bus even ida y vuelta, corecto?

My wife flew on Aereocalafia last Thursday Tijuana to Loreto. The fare was 1500 pesos one way(approx. 120 dollars one way). They did weigh her check in bag but did not charge her for the few extra pounds. She had a back pack and a camera bag and they tagged them for carry on but did not weigh them. They started checking in passengers at 11AM for the 1:20PM flight. All in all a very easy check in.

Yeah, and it takes 17 hours vs. 1 for the plane. At least you get one free bag, better than Alaska.

Well, I really like the fact that they add a Tuesday flight..

If you fly international on Alaska you get one free bag... at least I do when I fly to MEX, and I'm not even a member of their mileage program.

Don't know how you manage that...I am a mileage program member...I fly quarterly to and from Loreto, and I don't get a free bag! Here's a quote from the Alaska website:

Checked Baggage Fees

When Alaska Airlines baggage rules and fees apply, the checked baggage fee for standard sized bags is $25 each for the first two bags, and $75 for each additional bag.

LTO-TIJ is 1.5 hours, not 1 hour. With security, 1-1.5 hours arrival before the flight etc, make it 3 hours. If the goal is LAX - Alaska and LAX where mentioned? - then you'll still have a bus ride across the border to LAX, will arrive late in the evening.

Yes, bus TIJ-LTO is overnight affair, you leave late afternoon and arrive in the morning. Poor sleep is what bothers me most, on the bus. Though driving is more tiresome yet, and for one person is more expensive too.

Alaska on LAX-LTO route used to have 1st bag free. Now they charge from the very 1st checked bag, though it's still 50 lbs not 33 lbs, and they don't weigh a carry-on.

I think so. They are raising bus prices from time to time. It's probably now close to $US 250, de ida y vuelta, unless you have a Mexican senior's or student discount.

I was told this airline promotion, this was only til the end of August..

Still much better than going through LAX (alaska).. Flight gets in to TJ before 1pm, and leaves at 1:20 return to LTO.. Plenty of time to catch a flight in-out of SD airport "same day"..

Ah, I found it. First bag is free to GDL and MEX only. http://www.alaskaair.com/content/travel-info/baggage/baggage...

Phil, looks like we're out of luck with that extra flight on Tuesdays; I looked past August and sure enough it's not listed anymore starting September 1. Hopefully the extra passengers during the August promotion will persuade them to make it a permanent flight!

Not sure if Loreto being the bastard cousin of Mexican resort towns is a good or bad thing. The good part is that development has been minimal for many years. The bad part is that it's a biatch to fly there and back.
