WESTJET COMES TO LORETO

STARBAJA - 8-3-2014 at 12:41 PM

A new air service will begin a trial period in 2015 from Calgary Alberta Canada to Loreto. Westjet is one of the world's best rated airlines and will be flying a 737/600. Better than Horizon's sardine cans. The flights will be on Saturdays beginning Feb.14/15 until June 30/15. I have just booked our return to Canada flight and the prices are as good or better than Alaska without the dreaded LAX stopover. If enough people use the flight we may see extended or even year round service. Yahoo!!!!

Hard to figger, we can't even get a bi-plane with a two person back seat to fly into La Paz. Looks like Sr. Slim swings a big (er**) bat. Last time we visited Loreto they were rolling up the sidewalks and turning out the lights. Friends bought a couple of lots there back when it looked like L. was going to be the new boutique in Baja Sur. Can't give property away there now.

Oh boy...and just in time for whale season! This would be great for canucks who cant cross the states and need to fly direct.

Slim owns Volaris; not West Jet
I'm sure a big developer has a hand in bringing potential Canadian customers to Loreto.

Was just down to loreto to finish some land papers , corp. There was a lot of new interest in our property . Also heard that three lots have been sold at puerto escondito . And they are not cheap .

Summer really slow down there .

We stopped over at the Villa palmar resort next to our property in ensenada blanca to have a look around . Nice property and more guests then i thought would be around during the summer .

Our plane was full both ways . Free beer and wine .

Lots of progress on the 4 lane highway to ligui . Mexico is slow , but we could see the changes .

You get the jets you get the wallets .

That's good news for many reasons. I have a friend who would like to visit us with her little dog. West Jet is pet friendly. And the having to stop in the US is no fun ever.

That big developer in Loreto IS Carlos Slim. Loreto, like any number of remote villages in Baja Sur, will always be a winter getaway for rico gringos. In good economic times the dirt pimps will prosper, renaming beaches to fit the dream they sell. "Bay of dreams" comes to mind. The silver haired, open shirt chest hair with gold chains types from Vail will abound, installing their trophy wives in cute boutiques selling their and their friends bad art. All this will implode in the summer and when the markets "correct" their will be another flaccid tower such as exists presently.

We did a stop over in Loreto this summer on our return from Cabo. It's been a number of years since stayed there. Each time we've been there, everything was out of whack. High prices.....were the only norm.

This trip, we had mediocre food and a decent hotel but both were completely over priced. We drove back to our place in Bahia Asuncion and wondered how the town survives. Loreto has so much potential but......
