Burgers

bajaguy - 8-3-2014 at 05:38 PM

Buckaroo Burgers, north of town at KM 181, west side of street

http://sanfelipe.com.mx/2013/01/20/buckaroo-burgers-satisfy-...

Tioloco - 8-3-2014 at 05:39 PM

okay I will give it a try next time down,, have you been there

Tioloco - 8-3-2014 at 05:49 PM

:) You may want to go there with a buddy. Probably not the wife... They don't really have a view of the ocean if you catch my drift. Is cold beer, though... From what I heard. Somewhere... haha

Tioloco - 8-3-2014 at 05:51 PM

I will try buckaroo Burgers. Fatboys Pizza a block back from the malecon is really good pizza. Especially after a week or so of Mexican food.

OH,,, I do catch your drift,,, LOL thanks for warning me

liknbaja127 - 8-3-2014 at 06:04 PM

Maramar, for happy hr. then on to El Nido for a great steak or shrimp dinner.

freediverbrian - 8-3-2014 at 06:20 PM

I like palpas del mar on the malicon, or for something different and good not your rice and beans try Vaquita one block north of miramar

El Vergel - 8-3-2014 at 06:36 PM

Restaurants? They are all great!

For my fish taco of the day I take the suggestion from the Bar Miramar bartender. I always try stopping at El General, on the road to the Airport south of the Glorieta (traffic circle). It opens later and has asada tacos. Taco plaza at the South end of the Malecon always has something at all hours. The Pollo rostado vendor across the old Clam Man has been there forever. Street vendors are exquisite, I like the Cocos. Down side streets there are always local establishments who barbecue your purchase and host you comfortably.

These are a few of my favorite "restaurants" in San Felipe. Have fun and enjoy!

Tioloco - 8-3-2014 at 07:06 PM

This time of year, I think Thrifty ice cream would be muy importante.

BajaRun - 8-3-2014 at 07:09 PM

Al"s Backstreet Bar !!!

desertcpl - 8-3-2014 at 07:18 PM

PARTY PARTY PARTY

well some body told me :cool::cool:

Tioloco - 8-3-2014 at 07:38 PM

al's backstreet bar is cool. I like the NATIONAL ENQUIRER photo about Harrison Ford in there too.

mcfez - 8-3-2014 at 08:02 PM

An American couple runs this place. Damn good burgers! Great choice.

For dinner......
El Nido Avenida Mar de Cortez #348
Outstanding steak and chops. Secured parking. Decent price...no dress code.

Mariscos La Morena
Malecon Sur & Ensenada | Plaza Maristaco #16, rt corner, S end of the Malecon.
This is where you get shrimp! All their meals are great and decently priced.

What happened to George's? Used to be real good dinner place.

TMW - 8-4-2014 at 04:52 PM

Who has had a steak in El Nido San Felipe in the last 6 months? What did you have and how good was it? My last couple of steaks were not very good. I understand they are under new ownership, that all the El Nidos have been sold. I know the one in Loreto is not called El Nido anymore, ate there last Nov. and it was OK.

We ate there in June - I think I had breaded fried shrimp, and while a little pricy, were only OK, middle of the bell curve. And then I was reminded (not for the first time), that they only accept cash for payment, which meant I got to walk into town to the ATM machine. Not post margarita friendly.

El Nido & Buckaroo Burgers

John M - 8-4-2014 at 07:12 PM

We used to make El Nido a regular stop for dinner. Over the last two years we've had tough steaks, so so seafood. I rarely complain, figuring things go wrong once in a while. But last time I did complain and it was like talking to the computer - they offered no consideration, or offer of any kind.

If it has changed hands maybe it is now better. It has been just about a year since our last visit. The long time waiter, Juanito, is a hoot however.

Buckarro Burgers is closed during summer months.

Pete's Camp - start at the outside patio bar, you may decide to have your dinner on the patio, at the bar, it is just about ideal this time of year!

Edited this after talking with my wife; she believes that at Pete's Camp the restaurant is closed and only the outside patio bar is open during this time of year. In that event, a couple of Margaritas is still a pretty darned good way of starting off a late afternoon.

My son and I had one of our WORST steaks at El Nido couple of years back. Will never return.

redhilltown - 8-4-2014 at 11:33 PM

Hate to pile on as to El Nido but the LAST time I ate there, I ordered a shrimp dish...ya know, thinking I am in San Felipe and etc etc...

It was horrific...little bay shrimp in a foil something with something somethings next to it.

I love the room...love the vibe...but yikes, food doesn't match up.

San Felipe Resturants

meme - 8-5-2014 at 08:06 AM

Both Petes Camp resturant & Buckaroo Burgers are closed for summer. Petes outside bar is open, but I think no food. They will not open until Sept. Parrots Cracker (north of town) is also good but on short summer hours just now, Have a very good steak sandwich tho & good happy hours.
El Padrinos Italian (Former Red Lobster) is open but will close 2 weeks the end of Aug for vacations then re-open after. Very good food & service. The only reliably good steak at El Nido is the filet mignon in my opinion. big boys is open with good food as always.
El Cortez is also open with good food & service. Jolly Mon north of town (near eldorado) has good food also. Also I am told Juanitos & Azul (north of town across from Pemex) has good food & but neither serve alcohol.
Some places this time of year are only open late in the week & open later & close early depending on business.

liknbaja127 - 8-5-2014 at 08:19 PM

Wow, the last time I was El Neto was about 2 years, But Juan was still there, I think he was part of the same family ? I think they had 3 or 4 places. But they
kept the 2, Rosarito, and San Felipe. But things always seem to be changing  Will try it again next time I am in town!

nbacc - 8-6-2014 at 09:37 AM

La Vaqita is good also. North end of the Malacon. I second and third the Pete's camp meals. Breakfast is good there also. Nancy

mcfez - 8-6-2014 at 02:05 PM

Nancy.....is this across from the old harbor?

UPDATE: Pete's Camp Restaurant: Closed till September.
In and Out (Buckaroo's): Same
El Nido: wife didn't go for steak --- I lost out (Just had a great Bistek Tampiqueno in El Paso, though)
The Shrimp c-cktail and Campechana at La Morena-EXCELLENT. Had a good time but way too short.
Spent more time in La Mision, had to try out Splash, La Fonda 1 and two, etc.
Even managed to visit los traileros in Ensenada. Again, time way too short.

woody with a view - 8-7-2014 at 06:04 PM

Splash/Trailero

can't go wrong there!

Would you consider writing some more details on the restaurants you visited? Nomad actually has a forum just for restaurant reviews: http://forums.bajanomad.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=48

Bajahowodd - 8-10-2014 at 03:55 PM

I can recommend a great Mexican Restaurant in El Centro.

basautter - 8-10-2014 at 05:52 PM

The El Cortez Hotel has a very good restaurant, fantastic views, and they take credit cards!

Say Hola to Juan and have him make his famous Margarita

grace59 - 8-13-2014 at 08:25 PM

Depending on when you go to San Felipe....
Right now Pete's Camp is closed for food, but the outdoor bar is open. Buckaroo Burgers is also closed....it is ok in my opinion.....not the best burgers and high priced for the area for what you get.
I like Playa Azul which is north of town. It has really good breakfast and Mexican food. Roadrunner (also north of town) has good breakfast also, but a bit higher in price.
In town, I like La Morena, Taco Factory, for good tacos at a reasonable price. Don't try the pizza at big boy's...the crust tastes like it is made with Bisquick or something else unpleasant. They do have a good Shrimp c-cktail and cold beer, but higher prices. Right now Al's has a very limited menu...it is old, funky and smells like old cigarettes. My personal favorite for a nicer meal is El Padrino Italian Restaurant. It costs a bit more than the other restaurants, but the food is quality and excellent. La Cabana has good food as does New Georges. There are some new places in town that I haven't had the chance to try. If you find someplace good let us know!

We had dinner at Las Palmas laat nite & not only was the service very very poor but the filet mignon I had was the worst I have ever had in San Felipe. No excuse for this as even the markets here have really good filets. There were 9 of us & we were the ONLY ones eating in the place. 4-5 customers at the bar. Oh yes , we also had to eat in the bar as the resturant was not being used. The cigarette smoke was bad & we told them this when we entered. They assured us there would be no smoking while we were there (the place already smelled bad) but they did not stop the people at the bar from lighting up when they chose to. We were sitting right next to the bar & those customers. Needless to say we won't be returning there for dinner again. This was the second chance we have given them & still no good results.

We only ate there a few times (2006-2009) on our way home from Shell Island or Gonzaga, but it was quickly Baja Angel's favorite. Steak and shrimp are the dinners we ordered, so don't know about Italian. The waiter had a big mustache... It used to be on the main N/S street just north from the El Cortez, west side of street.

Bajajorge - 8-16-2014 at 09:29 AM

North of SF on eastside of Hwy5 around KM183ish is Un Otra Rancho Market, in back is a restaurant that is great for Mexican with some American dishes added to the menu for good measure.
La Vaquita on the north end of the Malecon is very good.
Baja Mar on the Malecon is good. Got my credit card ripped there though a couple of years ago.
I only deal in Pesos now wherever I go in Baja now. Credit cards, no mas.

Steve&Debby - 8-18-2014 at 09:02 PM

dakinepi - 8-21-2014 at 07:34 PM

el Padrino's, took over the old Red Lobster space (in San Felipe)..have not been to the new location but had the best italian food at the old location many times. Can't wait to get back....

bajamedic - 8-22-2014 at 07:02 AM

I have not seen any comments on the China Inn yet, are they still there? I had a wonderful meal there on my last visit, the shrimp were large and delicious, the service was great, lots of parking, etc. Also, I had a breakfast burrito at the little store next to El Dorado that was superior anything I have ever eaten in the states. JH
