Fishing in Mexican waters from San Diego

Milligan - 8-6-2014 at 07:14 PM

Hi

Have been fishing out of san diego (19ft mako boat) with my wife (who does not fish)

Thinking of following the fish which means going into Mexican waters. I understand I need a visa and to pay a permit. But not sue of the latest rules. Also hard to know in advance which day we are going, as due to small boat size we have to go when the weather lets us!

the fish are heading north. why go south when the Govmint of Mex won't let you keep Bluefin? you both need FMM's and fishing licenses to fish Mex on your boat. no permit if you don't come ashore in Mex.

Hola Milligan,

you only need to stay in U.S. waters as the fish have migrated north.

sign onto and check the posts on " bloodydecks.com " as there is a lot posted there.

if you like, you can sign onto " fishdope.com " and pay to get the info you seek. you can also sign onto and pay for info on " terrafin.com " to see what the water temps are.

good luck on your journey. please give a report.

BIEN SALUD, DA RAT

I fished the 226 and 302 the other day and there were lots of tuna and all the YT you could ask for. Although the YT were small, we only kept a few. Good luck!

I'm fishing the north 9 mile bank Saturday in my sailboat. Staying in US waters, looking for Bluefin and yellowtail. Barbeque on my patio in Playas Sunday!

Looking for paddys is key, as is working birds and fish jumping.

No FMM if you're outside of 12 miles - I fished 19 miles on a 220 heading and scored Mex limits of YFT by 8:30 am this past Monday - the tuna are pretty much everywhere, so a trip across the border isn't really necessary. There have been a decent number of 40- 70lb bluefin caught in U.S. waters this past week also.

I'm leaving on a 1.5 day trip tomorrow evening as part of the crew on a 6 pack charter - I'm thinking we'll be fishing local waters.
