I couldn't find a post related to pictures of the vehicles we use for baja, so I started this new one. Let's see the rigs!!

JZ that's an awesome truck! I have the same Z-71 only in a 2012 with 15k miles. I'm working on getting it outfitted for the baja terrain. I don't have
to do much to it. It's a great off-road vehicle. Just thinking about some toyo m/t tires and some accessories. Thanks for the pics my brother! How do
you like the new truck so far?
Early happy hour

John! Is that a custom rack? I like that it stretches across the bed. I'm thinking of putting one on for a spare tire and my jerrycans. Thanks for
sharing. Awesome rig.Ken Bondy - 8-8-2014 at 02:03 PM

Yes, custom from a local fabrication shop, it replaces an earlier version that was a cross-bed version designed to hold only three action packers.

yeah! I've been digging through the older posts and I've found a few rigs. thanks for sharing the rig in action. I've only camped out in baja once,
and it was the best camping experience of my life. i just bought a truck for baja and I'm trying to get inspired on the outfitting part of it.
hopefully ill have it built by the end of the year. thanks again for sharing David.

My wife and I did a 10 day camping trip in our beloved Subaru Impreza almost 2 years ago. I prepped it with lifted suspension from a Forester, skid
plates, 27" all terrain tires, and the roof rack. It was perfect even on some seriously rough roads and soft sand.StuckSucks - 3-16-2015 at 02:01 PM

The latest one now has Tundra front brakes, steel braided brake lines and some heavier duty springs front and rear. Only coastal shot I could find
that doesn't show a decent surf spot....

David: I ran those tires down to 10psi at times. That wasn't the problem here, we were high centered in this photo. I made a mistake avoiding a rock
and fell into the deep tracks. Took an hour jacking and rock moving to get out.

hey Udo, time for one of these FJ cantilever suspension mods!
Udo - 3-23-2015 at 11:23 AM
The FJ has some FOX shock already...
However, in studying the photo, the suspension looks intriguing. Where can something like that be done, and how much?Udo - 3-25-2015 at 06:18 PM
I went on their web site:
The kit costs about $5,500, plus about $1,200 install.
From what I can tell in the photos, this system seems to do most good when doing some heavy duty four wheeling, similar to what Ken does with his
Jeep.
The is a huge increase in rear wheel travel.
But the welding and modifications are humungous. http://www.wicked-creations.comDeMinimis - 3-30-2015 at 02:37 PM
A work in progress, but it got us there and back, with room for four.

Thanks Undo. This setup actually has more usable room than our former 30' Super C. However, with the inability to air down those 19.5 tires, it was
damn slow going from the Chapala cutoff to Gonzaga. Motivates me to get back to work on our 4-seater Chenowth (I need to install a Subi or Honda
engine in it) to tow along next time.
This gives a bit of scale to show just how ridiculously huge this thing is (and I haven't even added airbags or leveling kit yet):

Any pics of the Chenowth? DeMinimis - 4-1-2015 at 10:19 AM
Well it's a old pic. I've since been completely redoing the whole suspension (long arms, triple bypass and C/O out back, internal bypass C/Os in the
front, etc., etc. etc.), but haven't touched in a few years. Time to move it to the front of the list of projects I suppose.
Heck, it was '08 since we last had it in Baja even:

Good eye. Yes, that's on the East Cape Rd. In laws sold their place in SJ (they are dead to me now), so we don't make it down there. However, we
plan on making La Ventana our customary visit. Yes, a romp down the East Cape is definitely in order next time.DeMinimis - 1-27-2017 at 04:23 PM
Time to bring this thread back. Some folks must have some new Baja rigs, so let's seem them!
Since our last post, I went a little nuts on electrical. Four solar panels, 3000w inverter, a sub panel for all outlets and microwave (when working
off solar/inverter), two auto transfer switches (shore vs. genny and shore/genny vs inverter), and added a second dual battery bank. Honda generator
in tow just in case (the onboard generator is propane powered. It's a propane pig and noisy). I'm itching to turn some of the Baja sun into
electricity.
blackwolfmt - 1-27-2017 at 04:28 PM
That is 1 badazz rig
[Edited on 1-27-2017 by blackwolfmt]DeMinimis - 1-27-2017 at 04:36 PM
Thanks. Personally, I think it's too big. Once the eldest is off to college (or prison), I'll likely downsize. We spend a lot of time up on the
mountain skiing, and it's harder to keep a camper with dual slides warm. Well, not that hard as I plumbed in a catalytic heater (uses no electricity
and used less propane than the furnace), but still. However, since the eldest is still bleeding us dry, the camper stays. In fact, we're likely
bringing her friend along on our next Baja voyage, so it's going to sleep 5.
Here's a shot of the second batt box (right side in image) and some really, really big cable. A pain to work with, but keeping that voltage drop at
bay.
I don't have much for interior shots, but let me say this, the full queen size pillow top bed is damn comfy.
