Rosarito hotel suggestion

John M - 8-14-2014 at 06:46 AM

We've never actually stayed in Rosarito but would like to spend a couple of nights there and do some shopping for home décor stuff - mirrors, chairs, artwork.

We walked into the lobby of the Rosarito Beach Hotel last year and it was cool, for a lobby. Room recommendations? Older section of the hotel is what we were thinking.

Also is the shopping primarily on the highway? Other hotel suggestions?

We looked for reviews on Nomad and nothing in the past year.

Might as well ask about restaurant favorites while I'm at it.

We stay every year at the Rosarito Beach Hotel for the annual Mariachi Festival which is the first weekend in October this year. We absolutely love the hotel, the restaurant is very good. Shopping is OK from the hotel but it is good to be a little more mobile because things are getting a little more spread out. Quite a few places are closing but others seem to be doing well. The restaurant just on the right as you are walking from the hotel to the main drag is really wonderful and was our favorite. I think it is called the Banana Republic or something like that and looks like a pancake house, but has very good food and prices.
We really like the old Coronado wing with beach front rooms and of course when the Mariachi festival is in full swing we have a balcony overlooking the whole thing. Check out http://www.rosaritobeachhotel.com

That's a good one to stay at. La Fonda is pretty cool too.

shopping for furniture, pottery, used furniture, and antiques are south of the Rosarito Beach hotel, south of the 7-11 and Pemex, along that stretch of the main road - on the east side.

Of course theres a super Comercial Mexicana, Home Depot and Walmart in North Rosarito.

Also there is a sobre ruedas on the east side of town Saturdays, go east from the commercial Mexicana on the first really main road you come to turn right.

If you want a great go-to place for lunch or dinner, as you exit (walking) the RBH property, turn left. about 2 doors down on your left there is a nice little sit down inside or stand up outside taco place. Our favorite is a chicken quesadilla.

If you drive, almost at the north end of town on your left is Carnitas la Flor de Michoacan. Family operated, great food and plenty of it.

South between the RBH and Popotla (Corridor 2000 intersection) on your right is Tapanco (a branch of the El Nido restaurant family group)......further south on the free road on your right at about KM 40.5 is Ollie's Pizza........great pizza, salad, beer and wine

if you are looking for some higher end furnishings and beautiful tapestries be sure to go to Fausto Polanco it is the central part of Rosarito 2400 Benito Juarez Blvd. I LOVE this store and always find a new treasure there. Not cheap but beautiful stuff. When we retire and sell our current Mexico home in Rosarito and head further south I am building my rooms to fit their furniture as much of it is designed for large rooms.
