Not so funny pics of my first trip to Cabo

I was looking through some old boxes and came across some pictures. It was the early or mid 90's. We had rebooked our trip twice already so on the third attempt we went even though there was a storm brewing. A 5 day trip turned into a 10 day trip.

We took a cab to the bridge, waded across the river, and a city bus to the airport. What an adventure.

Could it have been 1998?
Isis hit that year and was one of, if not, the worst hurricane to hit here. We were still living in the states and no one could get to our house to check on it for almost a month. When they did get here, they said that the mold was 2-3 inches deep.

Wow. I didn't realize that that crappy hotel, which has undergone multiple changes of ownership, and is now owned by Wyndham, was actually built before the marina. That hotel was a fire trap, with only two elevators. Its claim to infamy was that it blocked many businesses on the main drag from the sea breeze.

We were staying at the Plaza las Glorias and the sliding glass doors facing the ocean were exploding like gunshots all night. Ours exploded when we were downstairs eating. We got another room on the other side of the hotel.

When Juliette hit on September 30th, 2001 that is exactly what the area looked like - even at el Tule (the arroyo with the bridge). Everyone was trying to get out of Cabo and to the airport but the airport was closed and all hotel rooms were full. It was a massive mess!!!

It was actually fun. We were at the original Pueblo Bonito. They had auxiliary power.

The ocean breached the sun deck and the pool, not to mention several first floor front units.

But throughout this the staff was wonderful, and we were able to go to a number of restaurants in town.

I suppose that if we were to catch our return flight during the time the arroyo North of downtown was terribly flooded, we would have been less than happy.

What we experienced was the resilience of the Mexican people. Scary, but great fun.

Could of been hurricane Fausto which I believe was in 96 I was stuck in it at the Mar De Cortez for 3 days, yes an adventure for sure.

The only restaurant we could find open for a couple days after the storm was a KFC.

We rode out Isis in la Ribera, after spending the previous night at the frailes hotel..:O we surfed Punta arena HUUGE on the way to la Ribera the day of... 14 inches of rain fell that night they said.. We were there for four days, getting out that 5th day was very sporty! I agree Judy, nothing has compared since..
