Boat aground near Abreojos?

weebray - 9-8-2014 at 08:56 AM

Neal at Marina de La Paz said he heard a sailboat went aground near Abreojos a day ago or so. Anyone know of such an event?

Blanca (or someone in Bocana) said a sailboat was on the rocks.

Wind peak was only 27 mph.... but lots of dirt and dust because no rain...but high storm surge...one sail boat on the rocks

bloody shame. As you can see, that report was by Ralph from Abreojos. Those are treacherous rocks over there: ain't for nothing the town is called OPEN EYES.

Wonder where she came from?

What is a small sail boat doing on the Pacific coast of Baja during hurricane season? Madness. It's one thing to be there with a panga where you can get out of the water when the weather goes to hell but in a five knot boat and few safe havens?

There have been many incidents where a boat of this size has survived in this situation by being carried up the beach with little pounding assuming that it misses any rocks along the way. The crew can just walk to dry land with wet legs. Hope this was the case but I don't see anyone in that video.

Looks like an older Pearson, hell of a small sailboat as pics and video attest.
The video never pans back to shore, Any pics with what part of Abre she went aground :?:

It had problems a couple of months ago (motor and sail) and was left behind for one of the locals to keep. Yes it dragged to anchors.

Looks like a Pearson Triton or a Alberg 30, very similar boats and both designed by Carl Alberg.
Awesome bullet proof boats with wonderful sea keeping abilitys, for its size.
Too bad:(

Glad no one was hurt. Sorry a boat was lost.
For a hurricane you only put out one anchor and make sure that you can swing 360 degrees without hitting any hazards.
