Caesars in TJ

Martyman - 9-9-2014 at 04:20 PM

After getting a few suggestions from Nomads for my lunchtime walkover, we picked Caesars. Excellent margaritas to start followed by the Caesar salad prepared tableside. We were not that hungry so we just had the cold peppers stuffed with crab and calamari. Everything was more than good.
The Mexican jumping beans are not in season as we were trying to get some for my sons' girlfriend. Two more months the vendors said.
We did take taxis to and fro and we jumped on the bus ($5usd) to get thru the border line quicker.
Almost paid for the photo with the painted zebra and the cart, sombreros, etc. but decided not too...kinda regret it now.

Have to admit that although we went to the original Caesars in the Hotel Caesar number of times, and were greatly impressed, have not made it to the current iteration.

That's the first time I've ever heard of the bus being faster.

Caesars is awesome, though. Glad you enjoyed it. The hotel's pretty bare bones (bed with thin covers, desk with light, bathroom with shower and toilet and sink, old TV) but isn't bad on weeknights.

Thanks for the report. When you posted the request I thought of places I've been to, walking over, but it's been so long I have no idea what's still around.

I've been travelling to Tijuana since childhood, when my family often went there for dentistry. I've never tried Caesars, though.

We used to love a place called "La Especial" on Revolucion: strips of carne asada grilling on a big open flame rotisserie, wonderful pozoles and soups, fresh tortillas etc. Guess it was better for a family on a budget than Caesars.

And of course there was always the lunch counter at Woolworths...

There used to be an incredible mole restaurant on Otay Mesa not far from the crossing... once again, it's been years since I've been.

I need to start heading south again to refresh my memory and tastebuds...

Is the Big Red Bus operating again or is there another bus. Used to be it was $3 and was definitely faster way to get across.

Totally agree on Ceasar's and the Salad is so good compared to all the imitations out there.

I love Ceasars. Regular lunch meeting spot with old friends in Tijuana...
