PURGING ILLEGAL ALIENS

DENNIS - 9-11-2014 at 04:34 PM

Arizona? No.

California? Nope.

Well....where?

Just ten minutes ago I got word that immigration, accompanied by police, are going door to door here in La Joya Beach Camp.
How far away are we from gas chambers?

fandango - 9-11-2014 at 04:38 PM

Interesting.
Will you be putting that on the bulletin board?

I won't even bother trying. Waste of ink.

chuckie - 9-11-2014 at 04:43 PM

We'll miss you Dennis....

DavidT - 9-11-2014 at 04:46 PM

It's just Stasyi's advance team making sure one of their demands are met.
immediate deportation of all illegal aliens.
It's gonna be difficult to deport when her coalition has the borders sealed.

chuckie - 9-11-2014 at 05:16 PM

Once again, if you are in Mexico illegally, why should you NOT be deported?

Nah...I'm OK, Chuckie, Permanente and all that stuff. It just turns my stomach thinking what we would be hearing if the tables were turned and the US went on a door to door witchhunt.

Save it for the US side, Chuckie.

chuckie - 9-11-2014 at 07:05 PM

Sorry Dennis, I get confused.....

Paulina - 9-11-2014 at 07:38 PM

I'm surprised the Pabloffs would allow a door to door witch hunt. How would the powers to be know otherwise if someone claimed to be just on a weekend/three day visit? Be on the lookout for unmarked cars with guys in dark glasses staking out the neighborhood. (jk)

Well...it was our friend, Jim, who saw them when he took his boat out of the water. He said there were a bunch of them, mostly police for escorts I assume, at the office and nothing was unmarked. It was all very clear.

Paulina - 9-11-2014 at 08:04 PM

Dern made a phone call and was told that Immigration was on the beach side of Campo La Jolla, accompanied by police just in case of trouble. They were very friendly, nice, and professional, checking people's documentation, tourist cards, etc. Those without it were given a predetermined appointment time to the Consulate in TJ to start their immigration process.

They are going to be on the mountain side tomorrow.

It's a whole different thing, Woody. The evictions were about land ownership. Today the problem is immigration.
Mexico is changing.

I'll go to Paty's tomorrow and watch the cars race to the gate.

bajaguy - 9-11-2014 at 08:52 PM

Maybe they could pick up some lunch at the Open Air Fair tomorrow

You mean the police? I'm sure it's on their list of people to visit.
The local traffic is going to thin out for a few days.

Mulegena - 9-11-2014 at 09:21 PM

A door-to-door check by immigration happened here in Mulege's tourist zones, too, years ago.

Immigration has the apparent right to know who every foreigner is and where they live.
They still make unannounced visits to people's homes on occasion, rare but it happens.

With a day's advance notice they conduct annual visits to all foreign-owned businesses,
check their licenses, employees and business practice.

It would appear that it's within the law and scope of their responsibility.

Zac,

I can see where it may be a big deal to some of the elderly people who are living in Baja who can't qualify financially for the new visas, scraping by on Social Security, barely making it month to month. Those are the folks I feel for.

Why is it okay for one to break the law in Mexico?

I feel bad for all who can't get by regardless of where one lives. But I also feel it is reasonable for Mexico to enforce their laws. I don't always agree with them...but it is my responsibility to know and respect them.

Paulina - 9-11-2014 at 09:44 PM

I am not saying it's ok to break the law in Mexico. I was only saying I feel for those who are stuck between a rock and a hard spot.

Yeah...I won't worry about it, but I sure as hell won't venture out in public without my USA armband.

It's harassment boolcrap done to appease the xenophobes and racists that, at times, not so silently permeate society in Mexico. I've seen it happen before and when the rabble is appeased, the storm troopers will go back to their barracks.

Scope of their responsibility? WTF isn't within the scope of their responsibility? That scope you mention could well be used in their next technique...body cavity searches.

It may be hard to pass yourself off to immigration as a tourist passing through with a greenhouse growing on your front porch.

SFandH - 9-12-2014 at 06:41 AM

Considering this and the Mulege vehicle check also happening now, I wonder if local bureaucrats have been told By Mexico City that the gravy train will slow down unless laws are enforced.

Jeez, higher taxes, law enforcement, what's Mexico coming to? What's next? No beer on the beach?

Things are changing, Frank. They always knew full well that property owners weren't tourists, but it seems they're going to start acting on it.........selectively at first, but it will probably be SOP in time.

Mexico is, indeed, changing.

It's the fine point of the law. Is a tourist and a property owner the same? Can they wear both hats simultaneously?
Immigration says no....foreigner says yes. Personally, I say no.
Place your bets.

akshadow - 9-12-2014 at 10:00 AM

FMM is not limited to "tourist" according to some immigration folks. It is limited to 180 days. Not sure there is agreement on when one if a snow bird vs a tourist.

Selective semantics.

180 days, right?

What exactly does the fmm/180 day allow one to do, regarding
time in Baja? I'm sure there is no clear answer. Can one rent
for a weekend, 2 weeks, 2 months, 6 months? I was under the
assumption one could not enter into a legal agreement with
an fmm, but reports have leases, fido's, bank accounts
acquired with a Tourist Permit. Does showing the Mex IMM an fmm satisfy them if one is renting?

And, when I fill out the FMM it has zero time limits on it due to my PR status..... so, how do you split that hair?:light:

Why would you need to fill out a FMM form if you have permanent resident status now?

That's odd....and here I thought the possession of a PR card eliminated the need to obtain any renewals of prior visa types, to include checking boxes, stopping at the border or any other manner of filing migratory forms.
In fact, I was under the impression that with PR status, one could forget stopping at the border or filing for renewal forever? (caveats noted)

Are you saying that even with PR status, it STILL requires one to obtain and fill out a FMM form?
That is the exact opposite of what I was told by a Migra officer who handed me my PR card.

Sure, I filled out some forms to obtain that PR card but never again, or so I was told at the time.
No more checking boxes, no more photos, no more copies, no more fees, no more visits to the local Migra......just no more!!

I must be missing something.
