Reports From Todos Santos / Pescadero - We were able to get a storm report and photos from Todos Santos, courtesy of Alvaro Colindres' FaceBook Page:

Odile took it's toll on downtown Todos Santos. Carla's loncheria totally gone. The CFE building totally trashed. However CFE workers are mobilizing. Lots of Power polls down, and poles down along highway to LP. They say it will be at least a week without power. The Church seemed Untouched. Now, we begin the clean up and Rebuilding Process! More to follow....

I haven't heard from either one, but thanks for starting this thread. I'm planning to visit Todos Santos in late Feb / early March.

Todos Santos

jasi57 - 9-17-2014 at 10:54 AM

Looking for an update on Todos Santos (thanks Alan for the early photos from Alvaro). Town, people, roads... anything at all.

EdwardTeach - 9-17-2014 at 11:25 AM

I'm really curious to hear anything about Pescadero/Cerritos as well. Our family has a house there and one person was at the house when the storm hit and the last communications we exchanged was 10:45 PM on Sunday.

BCSTech - 9-17-2014 at 11:34 AM

I just heard from Ernesto, one of my Technician Friends in TS. He was able to get out on the Internet over TelCel a few minutes ago, about 12:30 PM their time. Internet comes and goes.

He reports it's a total freaking disaster there. No power, no water, little food, and the banks are obviously out of commissions so no money.

I'll post a few pix he sent but it's nothing we haven't already seen, destruction everywhere.

I'm going to try and relay some messages through him but he has his hands full right now taking care of his family.

jlwwally - 9-17-2014 at 12:57 PM

Just got phone call from a friend in San Viciente area of TS. Army came by with food and water. No CFE trucks working in area as of yet. The place is a mess. Phone and internet off and on.

pacside - 9-17-2014 at 02:09 PM

Posted this in main thread earlier:

Caretaker texted me on Monday afternoon the following re my casa on cerritos beach in Pescadero south of Todos Santos:

"Lost 6 big sliders, 4 solar panels. A good amount of fence (palo de arco) and lots of sand in the house. All gas stations and stores are badly damaged. There are electrical posts down everywhere (Todos and Pescadero). No major permanent damage to casa, just plenty of cleanup. There is a shell of a trailer in front and lots of junk".

He also said the mayan huts on cerritos beach next door...www.cerritossurfcolony.com..are damaged bad, lost some walls, windows and sliders and their pool must have at least a truck full of sand in it. Said they lost the big hut. Said beach is unusable...too much junk..metal, wood, plastic everywhere.

He said he'll take pictures when he can get his phone charged.

pacside - 9-17-2014 at 02:18 PM

Informed cell service is on and off in Todos Santos area.

pacside - 9-17-2014 at 02:20 PM

Guests decided to stay in casa against my instructions to evacuate. Fortunately they are fine. They said 2 waves made it into casa. :wow:

EdwardTeach - 9-17-2014 at 02:25 PM

Where exactly is your casa?

blackwolfmt - 9-17-2014 at 02:36 PM

here is some TS info

Beachfront on Playa Los Cerritos in Pescadero south of Todos Santos. Just north of condos and south of the Cerritos Surf Colony.

EdwardTeach - 9-17-2014 at 02:49 PM

Ok. Ours is about 1/4 mile back from the surf colony.

EdwardTeach - 9-17-2014 at 03:56 PM

Just got a call. It sounds like the house made it through with just some broken solar panels and some shrubs missing. Oh and my brother has a little travel trailer there and the door decided to leave for parts unknown. Surprisingly the trailer didn't move though. No broken windows on the house either.

A shell of a trailer ended up on my property.

EdwardTeach - 9-17-2014 at 04:46 PM

We're just looking for the door... :D

BFS - 9-17-2014 at 05:18 PM

To all who sent me emails, thank you. We are fine and survived.
Have water and food for awhile so all good there.
Lots of damage at the house. I really should of bought that generated.
TS has been pretty much handled. Electric poles and transformers line the streets,
Many homes destroyed. Trailers rolled.
The pedrito arroyo was raging from bank to bank and it
at least a car and a garage that I could see.
But there is a calm in the town and everyone is cleaning up
And trying to move on some how.

woody,
Thanks....I sent him an e-mail yesterday....and am not expecting a quick reply....also called his sister in Washington and hope to hear from her in a day or so...

Hoping to spend 2 weeks at Casa Rancho over Xmas again....but my needs at this time certainly are less important than the recovery process in Baja....

Mika - 9-18-2014 at 08:09 AM

I think motoged is talking about Las Brisas. It's up on the hill from Esquina and bomberos. I know some people who live or have property there so I am worried about them particularly it's on the top of the hill. . . .

Any news or pictures from that area will be greatly appreciated!

pauldavidmena - 9-18-2014 at 09:26 AM

Here's an upbeat assessment from Alvaro Colindres:

Todos Santos Pemex is intact and open for business. The highway is open to La Paz and CSL. The clean up process and restoring services are well on their way. Although the news probably does not look good, it's not all bad. We are going to prevail! And there is no place I'd rather be!!! Todos Santos, BCS

pauldavidmena - 9-18-2014 at 09:29 AM

And this, also from Alvaro:

Calle Juarez In front of
Hotel California fallen trees are cleared. Jardin de Niņos is good shape. The Kingdom Hall near our home seemed untouched. Aliser market open. Bought lighters bottled water. No word when jugs of drinking water will arrive. More later....

cerritosguy - 9-18-2014 at 09:39 AM

situation is grim-----report from arlene---- looting in
pescadero-----driving a big truck---wearing masks-----

Yes, that is the area I was asking about....I have stayed at a rental complex there called Casa Rancho....Alex, the owner, is apparently OK and the damage to their property is evident but not catastrophic.....according to his sister, Monica, who lives in Washington state as I spoke with her briefly today by phone (Thursday).

BFS - 9-18-2014 at 03:07 PM

Hi,
All is well at Casa Rancho. We had extensive palapa damage but nothing structural to the rooms or kitchens.
I already dismantled the 2 palapas and they are on the street. One neighboor just took a major load of free firewood. And now I have about 20 cargas of pre drilled leaves if anyone is interested.
Gas is now available, cel phones on, bancomer open for a few hours this morning.
People are seriously rallying to clean up and the place already looks decent.
Woody, paul was a mere sea breeze compared to this monster.
The noise and pressure were unbelievable. It felt like being in on airplane that was going down.
More later.

nobaddays - 9-18-2014 at 03:15 PM

Has anyone seen Jim Coulson of Cerritos. He has a Big faded red construction truck and a worn black jeep.

motoged - 9-18-2014 at 05:07 PM

Alec,
Good to hear that you are okay....spoke briefly w/ Monica earlier.

See you in December... sorry for not being there to help.

Ged

I have some friends staying at Mountain Shadow RV Park. I have not heard from them since the storm hit.
Does anyone know how that location is doing? Is it damaged heavily.

[Edited on 9-19-2014 by wineisfine]

Katiejay99 - 9-19-2014 at 01:18 PM

Here I am!
Uggg!! Now THAT was a storm!
I am at shut up franks. No cell service, no electricity. They have a generator and Telmex phone and internet is working.

What can I say? About 60% of all power poles are down and just about every large tree and every piece of aluminum roof.

The road that the Mtn. Shadows rv park on is ruined so I can't comment on anything there.

If the building is made of Cement, it is probably still there. I have seen many RVs here in TS flipped on their side, stripped on their siding or crushed. I have seen others completely flipped over. I have seen a few still okay.

Looting is a huge problem. Many many families lost everything they own. Food is in short supply but the government has an 18 wheeler here giving out free food and water. The President was here yesterday.

I am ok. Damage to the properties I care for and my personal house was wiped out. But all in all, I'm okay.

Thank you very much for the update on Mountain Shadow RV Park. I hope I hear from my friends soon and can now only hope for the best.

Pescedero and Todos Santos are such a beautiful communities and would love to be there to help on those repairs.

I am definitely interested in the pre-drilled leaves. I lost my palapa in Pescadero. I'm in the states right now but I have a friend staying at my place who could pick them up. I should be down there in about two weeks to start the rebuilding.

Good to hear from ya Katiejay99, WOw sounds like a hell of a time The states news only talks about looting in the big stores I didn't think a small place like yours would have that much??:?:
Have you heard anything from monoloco, maybe all his neighbors are eating salmon good energy for a big cleanup job:lol:

Katiejay99 - 9-19-2014 at 05:25 PM

I haven't ventured in Monolocos direction yet. I have a whole mess of stuff to deal with here. I have friends who I haven't heard from either in that area
.
someone said that they wished they were here. I will tell you that No you dont.

Unless you know how to bathe out of a bucket and hand wash your clothes, stay away.

Katiejay99 - 9-19-2014 at 05:28 PM

Looting is HORRIBLE here. Locals vs locals, etc. Someone told me that they hear gun fire around their area at night. That is the area above the Bomberos. I am really glad that we have gasoline now and one ATM open and of course SHUT UP FRNAKS!! YAY!! Football is on!Imagine that!?!

BFS - 9-20-2014 at 07:13 AM

Hi Spearo,
A family in the neighborhood has beaten you to it.
They lost their roof so it's going to great use.

I'm glad to hear you're okay. How did Las Tunas and El Posito fare? I can well imagine sturdy cement structures remaining intact but palapas disappearing. Mary and I plan to be up in that general area in early March.

Does anyone know anything. How is:

San Pedrito beach;

Cabo Extreme/Surf Hotel area;

Rancho Pescadero area;

Las Tunas;

Otra Lado (out to Tunas);

Carlitos (Pescadero)

Sirena RV area;

Mountain Shadow RV area;

Tequila Road (is it passable?).

BooJumMan - 9-25-2014 at 10:57 AM

Katiejay your house was wiped out!?? That is really sad. I'm sorry to hear.

shari - 9-25-2014 at 11:13 AM

Oh my Katie jay...I am soooooo sorry to hear of your loss. I hope you have good amigos there to help you through this difficult time...or maybe you want to come up and visit us to get away from the disaster for a bit to collect yourself.

Katiejay99 - 9-25-2014 at 04:13 PM

Thank you Shari! I may just do that.
On a side note someone has cut and pasted my two entries and failed
To put that i said the looting is mostly locals on locals and they used
My screen name so lots of people here are all upset
Saying i have been posting all over the internet
That there are big problems here.

I posted nowhere else. If you are going to quote me please
Quote all or norhing

shari - 9-25-2014 at 04:34 PM

dont ya hate it when that happens!!! Sounds like a road trip to clear your soul may be in order.

Funny...I thought your report was very interesting and informative..not glossed over so people dont think there is a problem...I never thought there would be looting in TS...do you think they are people not from there...but now live there...mexicanos or some gringos too? Is it people helping themselves to stuff that got blown around or stores and casa break ins too?

I guess it's all relative too...someone may see disaster and destruction and be traumatized from the storm depending on where you were for it and what happened to your home. Others who didnt suffer much damage may not see the worst of it.

When a hurricane comes to call I try to get the people living in RV's here to come and take refuge and not ride it out in their RV unless it is well tied down and fortified and out of a flood zone.

cabobaja - 9-25-2014 at 05:02 PM

Robert & Linda at La Aguja (Playas Pacificas) are fine. Robert called yesterday from La Paz.
Todos Santos is doing well. Electric & water back in centro. Many CFE crews working. Power
Should be hot in La Cachora, Las Brisas, Las Tunas and La Pastora tonight or tomorrow.
Supplies arriving daily from La Paz for the stores.

Have not seen or heard of any looting. Nor have my many Mexican and expat friends.
This community has worked hard from 1st day after Odile. Viva Mexico, Viva Todos!

Jim Coulson from Cerritos is fine also.

DianaT - 9-25-2014 at 05:23 PM

During disasters, unfortunately, more BS than usual is thrown around on the internet.

shari - 9-25-2014 at 05:41 PM

cabobaja...was there much flooding in the lowlands there? I am glad Linda & Rob are OK...please send them our regards if you see them...wonder if their property flooded?

cabobaja - 9-25-2014 at 05:52 PM

Do not understand DianaT's comment. Shari, Rob stated that all was ok. I believe he and Linda are
back home. Been trying to call, but no go. Main thing is all is well. Might be able to get thru on cell
before their internet is back. If I do..., will post.

So glad BA is fine. Saludos to you and Juan. Tell Bajaboy to get back to work. His students miss

It was a general statement and certainly had nothing to do with your post! I am sorry if you thought it might be directed toward you.

In good times there is so much BS spread around here and during times of trouble, the level increases all the way from exaggerated reports of problems, to exaggerated reports of all is okay, and includes reports of help and or no help.

cabobaja - 9-25-2014 at 06:18 PM

Diana, thanks for clarification. Did not think it was directed at me. There was no looting in
Todos Santos. The people here would not allow it. The storm abated at 4:30 Monday
morning. By 5:00 people were checking on neighbors and the town. By 7:00 everyone was
In full cleanup mode. After 18 years here and a few hurricanes I have never seen the
people come together like they did here in Todos. I did not have a cold drink for 5 days.
It was in the 90's and humid. Not complaining, just saying we all sttod together and took
Care of our community.

Katiejay99 - 9-25-2014 at 08:28 PM

You know, everyone has their own take on everything. We do have electricity thank you to Cfe generators supplying the power. Pres nieto will be here tomorrow and he has promised us our own hospital! Everyone is talking about that. Just so you know i talk 80% with mexicans and 20% with non mexicans. To say that there was zero looting is crazy. I have heard first hand of several people who had their stuff taken. U am not aware of an ongoing problem nor businesses robbed. Do you want the truth or just what you want to hear?

If i told you that 3 people were murdered here night before last would you call me a liar?. I knowvof 3 people who witnrssed it. Drug related

Dont try to tell me that i dont know what is going on because i certainly do. Sorry for misspelling. No internet and am using my phone
