carlosg - 9-16-2014 at 10:24 AM

Hi everyone, my family and I plan to drive to Gonzaga this weekend, never been there before and would like to find out if there's any phone connectivity in the area or if Rancho Grande has wifi for rent? Any suggestion were to camp and launch a 16' boat?

Cliffy - 9-16-2014 at 11:02 AM

carlosg Have you checked the weather lately???????????????????????

desertcpl - 9-16-2014 at 11:04 AM

Carlos

???????????????????????????

willardguy - 9-16-2014 at 11:25 AM

rancho grande store has phone service, good launching at papa fernandez into the bay, you can get weather updates at http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboa...
camp either at rancho grande in one of their palapas or over at campo beluga, assuming thet're still standing! nothing heavy wind wise as of yet;)

I'm reading 29mph winds and rain out of Gonzaga right now. Forecasted to build to 50 with heavier rain.
This might not be a good week for vacation.

Sidamone - 9-16-2014 at 12:01 PM

Perfect occasion for a first timer. You'll be able to dine out on the story for years.

It does look the same, because it is down and weather cam is showing the last image, Sept 5. Bad time for it to go down

So, norte' has been spared the total pummeling of sur? I have friends supposed to be headed to Scorpion Bay via San Ignacio via Gonzaga....will there be gasolina for them to travel or does anyone have an idea how far north the restrictions will apply?

ehall - 9-16-2014 at 03:04 PM

I don't think 4 times your annual rainfall in 1 day is being spared. I bet Alfonsinas is on an island. At least winds aren't too bad so storm surge should be minimal I hope.

dizzyspots - 9-16-2014 at 03:11 PM

Now the Punta Final site is showing over 11 INCHES and peak wind of 44.4???

chuckie - 9-16-2014 at 03:17 PM

Would not surprise me, remains of "16" catching up with Odile...Gas? I wouldnt worry about "restrictions"...worry about electricity watts volts ohms and stuff.....no spark no gas...DUH...

brewer - 9-16-2014 at 10:38 PM

I heard we got 20". I can believe it. Winds up to 67 mph. This is the real deal. Still going strong.

carlosg - 9-17-2014 at 09:14 AM

Rainfall according to:

http://www.wunderground.com/personal-weather-station/dashboa...

...there's an accumulated 1.72" of rain as of a couple of minutes ago, if this is not correct please clarify, I'm still thinking of heading down there tomorrow morning, so any advise is greatly appreciated... we're planning to camp at an available camp site (Rancho Grande, Belunga, Papa Fernandez...?) any suggestions?

woody with a view - 9-17-2014 at 09:47 AM

do it. make sure you report back!

willardguy - 9-17-2014 at 10:08 AM

I don't know what to believe. accuweather is showing friday saturday and sunday to be sunny and beautiful! but thats accuweather?
have a great trip!

carlosg - 9-17-2014 at 11:24 AM

I just got some info regarding Punta Final: "...At this time Punta Final is almost under water the road coming to camp is 2 ft. under water. Also the road to Sacrifico is washed out and the wash you have to go over is is running big time. It will be at least 2 to 7 days before the road are passable...."
Any other info is greatly appreciated...

Gonzaga Bay

harbormaster - 9-17-2014 at 11:29 AM

The weather station at Punta Final reports over 50" of rain in the last 24 hours! I am hoping that the gauge is not functioning properly. I have a Casa in Punta Bufeo and would like any info on how the Gonzaga Bay area fared. Any flooding of the houses there? Any reports on the new road? My contact down there are unresponsive for the obvious reason but although I have bee tracking the form, Facebook, etc. haven't seen much form this area.
I'm packed and ready to head south to help cleanup my place or others that need help. Thanks

That would be Arroyo Santa Marķa, originating near the mission of the same name, 10 miles west. Another large arroyo joins it, just west of the Hwy. 5 new bridge construction... that one is called Arroyo Las Arrastras on the Almanac and Arroyo San Francisquito on the Gulick map. It includes the La Turquesa Canyon drainage, too... so I can easily see a river going into the bay between Beluga and Sacrificio!

Welcome to Nomad... Using the 'Today's Posts' link at the top shows all new activity from all the forums here, and that makes finding topics easier and no need to open separate forums to read stuff from the last 3 days!

that same link, when you look at the weekly precipitation shows 49.49 inches of rain. I'm not sure I believe that but...

I did get a text from a friend at Pt. Final that said he finally gave up with the onslaught of rain. He could not keep up with it in his place and it got flooded pretty bad.

carlosg - 9-17-2014 at 11:46 AM

David K,

..looking at the Baja Almanac seems that anything north of Belunga may be available for camping...

David K - 9-17-2014 at 11:50 AM

You will have MANY flooded arroyos south of San Felipe to cross... and rock slides south of Puertecitos... Matomi is probably a river.

Without 4WD, expect road beds to be gone at vados and some bridges, too. This is a major event.

Look to Facebook for new photos... One shows a waterfall west from Los Pulpos (~15 miles north of Puertecitos) coming off the side of a mountain.

[Edited on 9-17-2014 by David K]

dizzyspots - 9-17-2014 at 11:56 AM

Friend that is at GB now reports only minor wind damage and minor flooding...Punta Final got hammered...reports from north (Puertecitos) were very mild......they dodged Odile

No reports of issues with Mex 5 until after Rancho grande

carlosg - 9-17-2014 at 12:36 PM

Wi-Fi,

Looking for someone that has Wi-Fi and is willing to share it (for a reasonable fee) while we are down there, I need to stay in touch with my family due to my mother's ailing health condition... we're traveling tomorrow sometime during the day, any info as where to camp and launch a boat is greatly appreciated...

willardguy - 9-17-2014 at 12:39 PM

again...rancho grande market has a couple phone booths inside and launch at papa's!:light:

ehall - 9-17-2014 at 12:53 PM

Wonder if Coco can tread water? Hope he is ok. Storm looks to have went directly over his place.

brewer - 9-17-2014 at 01:07 PM

The weather station was just taking a pounding. I'm here and it is more like 19" which has totally flooded us. Good news about the road north of here.

David K - 9-17-2014 at 01:25 PM

Looking forward to hearing from TW when he gets there (or anyone else)... Because of the major arroyos across Hwy. 5 may be flowing, it could be a couple days to drive to Coco's from San Felipe???

cj5orion - 9-17-2014 at 01:43 PM

Came down to gonzaga tuesday night.
Hwy 5....a few rocks on the road.

Terrific news! Let us know when the Arroyo Santa Marķa can be crossed to get to Punta Final or Coco's Corner, please!

I'm leaving in a few minutes for San Felipe and tomorrow for Cocos then up to Catavina. Will do a road report when possible. Stay safe my friends.

ehall - 9-18-2014 at 12:43 PM

You stay safe! Hopefully the construction crews at Arrastra have pushed a new road across the wash.

cj5orion - 9-21-2014 at 06:28 AM
