Ensenada airport

cerritosguy - 9-21-2014 at 07:05 PM

I am driving down in 2 weeks from BC canada

Has anyone flown into Ensenada from Mexico city?..do they have commercial flights?..reason im asking is my GF is gonna try to meet me in Baja Norte somewhere and i figure Ensenada would be better for me to meet her there instead of Tijuana as i always get lost in the horrid city..

she is near Mexico city in Tlaxcala right now..she was evacuated to there from San Jose 3 days after Odile..

I like to cross into baja threw Tecate in my super c class RV so ensenada would be preferred..i hate TJ..then we will continue down the baja to los cerritos

Better to use Tijuana. Ensenada only has a small regional Airport.

Rodriguez field in Tijuana is an international airport.

cerritosguy - 9-21-2014 at 07:27 PM

thanks whale-ista..i just loath the thought of going to TJ..i get lost everytime ..

Alm - 9-21-2014 at 07:43 PM

Cerritosguy, you don't need to drive to TJ in order to fly out of there.

Whale-ista - 9-21-2014 at 07:55 PM

The airport is near Otay Mesa crossing. Cross there.

You don't need to drive into downtown Tijuana so it's a little less confusing.

You could also leave your car on the US side and walk across and meet your friend at the airport. There places to park and taxis from the crossing to the airport at a reasonable cost.

cerritosguy - 9-21-2014 at 08:12 PM

is Otay Mesa crossing RV friendly?

Ateo - 9-21-2014 at 08:40 PM

Cross, then park the RV somewhere. Hire a taxi to take you to the airport and back to your RV. Easy! Have fun. Good luck.

Alm - 9-21-2014 at 09:24 PM

I would leave RV home, unless this motorhome IS your home. Or - park it on some secure parking on the US side and take a cab to TJ airport as suggested.

Have no experience with that Otay parking on the US side. What I do know, is that there is no problem getting to TJ airport from San Diego area by bus or shuttle or taxi. You might not even need TJ - flights from SD airport to Mexico City are reasonably priced.

bajabound2005 - 9-21-2014 at 10:57 PM

TJ to the DF is way less expensive than from SAN. Volaris or Aeromexico....

Alm - 9-22-2014 at 12:01 AM

Sep 30
SAN-MEX: $245
TIJ-MEX: $178

After you've priced in the time and cost of border crossing (and FMT card?), it isn't really much cheaper.

paranewbi - 9-22-2014 at 06:15 AM

1) easy crossing at otay, then drive to airport and park in airport park lot...leave and easy road to Tecate. Really not much road confusion. Google map it or ask David K to map it out for you.
2) Drop off RV at Delta Parking on US side. They will drive you to Otay Border and walk across for Cab ride to airport ($12). Retrieve GF and catch Cab back to border by making a right turn outside airport entrance. Walk across to US side, call Delta and they will come get you. (you can also get your visa walking across at Otay)
3) Have GF do the Cab thing from TJ international and walk across border. You park on US side at Otay crossing and wait for her outside of US crossing (it dumps out into a cul-de-sac road...just Google map it and check it out) then go to Tecate.

All of these are easy but some is just more time consuming (walking with her back across can be a hassle with the crowd).

Go with Alm...have her come to SD International and then head for Tecate.
After you add up the hassle to meet in Mex it's just better times to do it Alm's way.

Just fyi, Ensenada is an international airport. There just aren't any commercial flights to it from major cities. Used mostly by 'GA' (as Capt. Mike would say)... general aviation/ private planes. Also a regional airline to Isla Cedros and Guerrero Negro has used it... and the military, as well.

Tijuana is the nearest major airport... ~70 miles (110 kms.) away.

cerritosguy - 9-22-2014 at 08:54 AM

seems some are confused by my original post..its ok i dont understand myself some times..i opoligize for this

i am in canada right now..I am driving down south in 2 weeks from BC canada

Has anyone flown from Mexico city, mainland to Ensenada?..do they have commercial flights?..

she is near Mexico city in Tlaxcala right now..she was evacuated to there from San Jose 3 days after Odile..

I like to cross into baja threw Tecate in my super C class RV so ensenada would be preferred..i hate TJ..

Then we will continue down the Baja to Los Cerritos..

After sleeping on it i figure i could go threw Tecate and take the toll road to TJ and meet her at the airport or some place like Walmart if there is one in the area..I got an updated map on my GPS and just put my fate in Garmins hands..hopefully meet up with some frinds in other RV's and convoy down together..She is Mexican so she will be able to get accurate road reports etc. from cops W/E..

thank you for your suggestions!

David K - 9-22-2014 at 09:15 AM

Here is what I posted, that should have answered your question: "Just fyi, Ensenada is an international airport. There just aren't any commercial flights to it from major cities."

If she hires a private plane, she can fly there... but no airlines go from Mexico City to Ensenada that I know of... Of course, there is a LOT I don't know!

Have a safe drive!

His GF is in Mexico near Mexico City, so probably not logical to fly her out of the country just to cross back in?

cerritosguy - 9-22-2014 at 09:36 AM

thank you david k..you got it!..ill ask her to look into flying into Ensenada..

micah202

She is Mexican

There is no point to making it more difficult to drive back down to BCS by going threw the USA border hassles...

There are no direct flights from Mexico City to Ensenada. There is one airline that flies a small turbo prop into Ensenada 3 days a week from Guerrero negro. There is no direct service GN to Mexico City. Your girl friend is looking at minimum 3 flights legs to fly into Ensenada.

She will spend an extra half day or more getting a puddle jumper flight into Ensenada. It will take you very little extra time to pick her up in TJ. You are going to make your girlfriend have a long travel day because you can't drive your RV on an urban street?? Park in San Diego and pick her up by taxi at TJ. It's like one mile from the border xing to the airport.

If you are really uncomfortable, you can hire a car service to pick up your GF at TJ and take her to tecate or whatever rural road you are comfortable piloting your boat.

fireman8s - 9-22-2014 at 11:05 AM

I have been at the Mexicali airport when commercial flights from Mexico city have arrived... way better than dealing with TJ

David K - 9-22-2014 at 11:14 AM

The Tijuana airport is next to the Otay Border crossing, and well signed after you cross south at Otay. Cerritosguy, we want to help, but there are no flights into Ensenada from the mainland, other than the wild mouse ride that mtgoat666 described.

cerritosguy - 9-22-2014 at 12:06 PM

cerritosguy - 9-22-2014 at 12:08 PM

she is now getting a flight to mexicali..no flights to ensenada she just found out..you were all correct about that.

THANK YOU ALL!!

cerritosguy - 9-23-2014 at 10:25 AM

i am already loaded with relief supplies for the mexicans in BCS..kinda taking a chance already with the border..
sorry
if they have some in ensenada i would consider getting some

cerritosguy - 9-23-2014 at 11:01 AM

im the one who had the add in the onion to take stuff down for the mexicans and gringos btw..i take stuff down every year..i filled up quik..

Alm - 9-23-2014 at 02:00 PM

There is a dozen(s) RV parks in on the US side in El Centro. I remember staying in Desert Trails RV park, $27 with no hookups, more with hookups. Clean washrooms, WiFi in clubhouse only.

Yes, overnight stay in Walmart lot is an option on the US side, but I would not want to camp on the street (including unsecure WM lot) anywhere in Mexico. Would rather drive 100 miles into desert, off road, where nobody would see me, and camped there.
