Authorities are still cleaning up Mexico's Baja peninsula after the impact of Hurricane Odile. Princess Cruises has become the first cruise line to
cancel a port call there.
Princess said its 1,970-passenger Coral Princess, which had been scheduled to call at Cabo San Lucas on September 26, will skip that stop and call
instead at Puerto Vallarta further south in Mexico.
Odile's winds reached up to 125 miles per hour, shuttering dozens of resorts and temporarily closing the area's international airport. However, Cabo
San Lucas is not a big cruise hub compared with other spots on Mexico's east or west coasts.
Carnival Cruise Lines, the biggest operator of Mexican Riviera itineraries, does not have a call scheduled there until it resumes seasonal service to
the area on an Oct. 4 departure from Long Beach, Calif.
A Carnival spokesman said the company is keeping an eye on the progress of hurricane clean-up and continues to assess the situation while looking for
ways to aid in local storm relief efforts.
