New book (for me) about 1535-1846 California

The cover art is from Jesuit Padre Ignacio Tirsch of Mission Santiago from 1763-1767 and shows "a California Indian woman carrying green seed pulp" and "a California majordomo like those who came from Spain".

The book is 506 pages of history, maps, images, photographs... It was only $5 including shipping from Amazon!

Looks promising... Instead of the typical sources for history, this one contains input from actual residents instead of outsiders, in the later years. Also, while it has more on Alta California (1769+) as the target audience is U.S. California people, it makes it very clear that historically California begins physically at Cabo San Lucas and goes north from there. Also, that Loreto is the first California mission (sounds like my kind of book)!
