Launching boat on Bay of Concepcion

I have 22' i/o ski boat and usually launch at the Serenidad ramp; I am heading down next week and unfortunately Odile has dashed any hopes of launching at my usual spot. We usually just hang out in the Bay (ski, snorkel, etc.) and was wondering if anyone can recommend a place to launch along the Bay. Santispac & Burro are too shallow for my truck.

Ron just came to Lopez from Mulege and said there was no place to launch with the ramp and road wiped out.

So he brought his boat (21' Triumph) and is fishing here.

there are no public ramps on the bay...

we launch out front for the guests

you may need 2 trucks and a chain...no ropes...4x4 is always good too

Mulege Pueblo river launch:

The pangueros in Loma Azul (north-side river) are now putting their boats in the river where the road leads up the hill to the hotel, 4x4 recommended.

The pangueros in Cacheno (south-side river) are now putting their boats in at the Serenidad launch ramp, 4x4 needed.

Thanks guys; I appreciate the comments. Everyone has confirmed what I suspected so I'm not going to chance getting stuck somewhere. I considered Mark & Olivia's too but wasn't sure about the conditions there either. I may stop by on my way to Mulege from Loreto & check it out after I land (good excuse for a beer and a burger).

Sounds like this is an opportunity to go down and check out the islands off the coast of Loreto; have always wanted to do that but then end up just staying on the bay since it's tough to beat.

I went down to Buena Ventura after my cleanup and the concrete ramp there looked same as always, I think you'd just need to watch the tides, like anywhere around the bay.

I often launch off the beach on the southern part of Coyote Bay. Nice slope there, not too shallow. 4X4 necessary.

There is a ramp at Playa Naranjo; I would imaging they'd let you use it for a fee, as well as parking your truck and trailer there too (also for a fee). I have no idea what Odile did to that area, and the small breakwater harbor they built chokes with Sargasso in the early spring; worth a look. It's in between two housing developments, you'll see it on the way in to the office.

I've seen larger boats launched and recovered by backing the trailer into the water at Santispac. The best place is just before the start of the road that goes to the lagoon. But only at high tide, the higher the better. A winch with a long cable and rollers on the trailer help a lot during recovery

My family and I were planning to go downhere last month however Odile changed that for us, so now we'll come down during thanksgiving, hopefully theres a vacant "cabaņa" at Los Naranjos otherwise we'll have to camp at a palapa; we have a 16' Larson and I'm hoping we can launch it using their ramp.. if you have any updated info we'll very much appreciate it... last year while driving from Punta Chivato to Santa Rosalia on our way to PC we drove by San Lucas Cove and drove by your place... I imagine it was your palce because of the ''...Pedos Feliz..." banner in front of it. We've been camping at PC there for the past couple of years during September - October but don't even have an idea of what the weather may be during thanksgiving... please illuminate me :?:

Does anyone know a way to contact the people at Los Naranjos?

There are only a few palapa-type lots left at Naranjo now; they've built all the others into beachfront small houses for rent by day/week/month or year. Rental prices went up accordingly. Some are permanent residences. I'm stuck stateside for the winter this year, so i'll miss you down there.

Weather is very nice mid-November, chance of nothrer's blowing (as always) but it doesn't get chilly for another few weeks or so. Have a good trip, and say howdy to the dolphins for me.

I have not been there since Odile but have launched at Santispac many many times after other hurricanes. The sand pack where the Pangueros keep their boats used to be hard enough to get close to the water. But most often I would get stuck, even with my 4 Wheel Drive F150.

I could always find someone to help tow my truck out with another 4WD; either a local or a gringo. Best insurance is to line that up beforehand, just in case. Carry your own chain.:light:

Any plans in place to replace (again) the dock on the river just past the Serinidad Airstrip? That would be key to attracting more fishermen to Mulege and keeping the ones who have houses there. There are too many fishermen to not reestablish some place to launch, soon!

How about the ramp out at Chivato? I dont know what the road is like after Odile; maybe Russ or others can comment. But I have seen at least 27 foot boats launched there. I used to take my old 22 Mako out there every year in June. If the road is washboard, just go slow and air down the trailer. I think the area is worth the drive in and out.

I prefer the fishing, boating, snorkeling around that area to Concepcion, anyday. Weather isnt as scorchingly hot out there, either, as they get better breezes.

I am assuming there is still self-contained dry camping on the beach at Punta Inez or you could rent the very reasonable rooms out at El Hotelito. The manager there, Ken, was very accommodating; the last time I was there (2013). He would see that an employee would run into town to fill your gas cans. Yes, you paid a bit more for that service. I boated in from across the Sea (San Carlos) and he picked me and my crew up at the anchorage, too. Nice, small bar for adult beverages.

If you start with a 22 foot boat, by the time you get it to Chivato, it will be a dinghy. The road is really rough as it got wiped out by the hurricane and is passable for a vehicle, but I am not going to pull my boat over it for sure.

Just read this post...and I can report that is doable.


Like my old neighbor, Vince, I've launched often at the same place. Have launched a 28ft cabin cruiser and a 31ft Bertram sportsfisherman....both having a good draft. Can be done with 4X4 and using the tides. Always a fun operation.


Just turn in off the highway ...you will see the entrance for Coyote Bay camping beach. Between km 108-109.

Hi David , All is good for our ramp lunching boats. Works with the exception of very low tide and high winds from the north.
