Gonzaga Bay Trip

fishmonster - 10-26-2014 at 01:25 PM

I'm new to this board. Looks like there's a lot of good information and knowledgable people posting. My freinds and I are planning a trip to Gonzaga Bay in March and looking for advise.
Is Alfonsinas the only lodging option other than camping?
How do we arrange for a boat to take us out fishing? Are there fisherman hanging out on the beach like at San Felipe where we can find a boat to take us out?
Any recommendations on fishing spots. Looks like there's a lot of options in the area.
Any helpful hints are appreciated.
Thanks....

Welcome to BajaNomad!
There are 'cabins' for rent at El Sacrificio, which is between Alfonsina's and Punta Final... closer to Punta Final. Campo Beluga and Rancho Grande (both south of Alfonsina's) has palapas on the beach.
With the pavement arriving earlier this year, expect changes to happen...
There is no 'town' at Gonzaga, so no fishermen hanging out waiting to be hired... however, talk to Antonio at Alfonsina's Motel/ Restaurant or anyone else to arrange a boat to hire. Papa Fernandez' is also a place to check for fishing boat... and there is a restaurant there, too. Note the photo of Papa and John Wayne together, inside the restaurant. The Duke loved Gonzaga Bay back when flying in was how most Americans visited the area.

I just passed through there last week. My dog and I spent the night on the beach, and we were the only ones there. I bought a gallon of water at the gas station, it was Costco's Kirkland brand.

Howdy and welcome. If you use the search option on this board you'll find tons of info on San Luis Gonzaga. Ask around at Papa Fernandez and Alfonsina's as DK advised...it is not a fishing town as to rentals and sportfishing though you can find it. My guess is that with the new road some of that may change. If you do camp (or fish), watch out for the winds as that is the time of year they can be brutal...if you can plan a few extra days in case they blow you off the water.

Stop at the store/restaurant on the hwy across from the gas station in the Alfonsina area. They will get you in touch with a guide that will take you out.
