Whale-ista - 10-31-2014 at 05:20 PM

This started as:

"BREAKING: Mexican judge orders the immediate release of jailed US Marine Andrew Tahmooressi, family says. pic.twitter.com/oEwTFuNkVm @10News
4:15pm - 31 Oct 14"

And has become a very different thread, soo.... name change seemed in order.

Carry on...

Pay day!

dtbushpilot - 10-31-2014 at 05:32 PM

Great news! Let's hope it really happens.
Does this mean the disbanding of the "chicken coop group"? Will we have annual reunions?

motoged - 10-31-2014 at 05:50 PM

DT,
Like-minded souls will continue to attract one another.....we are an honorable group :saint:

MMc - 10-31-2014 at 06:01 PM

So if I break Mexican laws and lie and get my family to lie. Then I get a news company to do same, I spend less then a year in jail. His plan is better then mine:light::light::light:
I know a young man who came to CA with AR (same long gun)from CO without a bullet button, (required here in CA not in CO). He went to a shooting range and was told to put it away and make it legal. The law showed up ask to look at it and now he is a felon, lost his job. maybe his wife. He's a sharp kid that didn't know the law, I didn't hear anything about him.

Pompano - 10-31-2014 at 06:29 PM

Good news for the long-jailed marine...and so glad he'll be home in time for the elections, but most of all to be with his family and friends. Like 'some' of our returning veterans deserve to be welcomed back.

I totally agree. However, it DOES make him unfit to run for POTUS, kinda like our Senator from Arizona, who is a war hero and a PTSD sufferer.

The guy did enough time for his mistake. I think he got off with a 'fair' shake. Too many shady areas, like the hooker-hotel, he'd been there before, he'd been there THAT DAY, the room was still rented, so his oopsie-doopsie turn doesn't add up. I think Mexico figured he'd done enough time to satisfy the need to tell America it's serious about people caught with guns at the border, and what can happen, even with flimsy excuses.

I personally know about PTSD. I packed for years, almost killed someone TWICE over inconsequential CRAP, and after therapy and time to digest it came to the conclusion that carrying is NOT the answer. I really hope Tamahoozits gets into treatment, and i'm talking about in-patient help, especially after his ordeal. He's a danger on wheels living in his truck and packing the heat he had with. Wasn't IF, but WHEN, trust me. It's a true crying shame we have so many of US out on the streets in the same condition, same conditions, waiting for triggers. David K - 11-1-2014 at 06:59 AM

When a society places more concern for farm animals than war heroes or any human, it is surely demented. That's not to say some farm animals aren't smarter! At least the horse runs away from trouble and not drives into it.!

Think and don't just react...

chuckie - 11-1-2014 at 07:17 AM

You may well be the only person in the world that has defined "society" as doing that....

Pompano - 11-1-2014 at 07:33 AM

Maybe some human compassion is in order...for a change.

Empathy, the ability to put yourself into someone else’s shoes, is one of the things that makes us human. It lets us know how others feel.

One should not have to emphasize this human feature. Nomads seems to have lost much empathy lately.

I hope he is able to keep his guns and one day protect the USA again.

I am starting to get feedback from Mexican citizens. They are not quiet as enthusiastic as people from the US and think there is definitely a double standard here. Some are very vocal about it.

The guy is a criminal that PURPOSEFULLY took guns into mexico. He had a hotel room in TJ and was taking his truck and arsenal to his hotel. He should be in prison and is lucky to be out. He got out of jail because he was mentally unfit to stand trial. I hope he is not being re-armed today.

Whale-ista - 11-1-2014 at 11:31 AM

When I posted the original notice I did so without any commentary, just as an advisory. I've seen so many posts about this situation, so I figured they would appear without any prompting.

I was married to a person who served in combat, and returned from the experience with shrapnel in his body (for life) along with PTSD and many of the other health and behavioral challenges that go along with being injured during a year spent in warfare situations. (He's been living in Baja for nearly 40 years.)

From our years together I can say: It's not easy to overcome those memories. He's done a lot to get his life on track with the support of family, friends, and professional colleagues, and is now doing very well.

I wish the same healing and recovery process for this veteran.

Lots of valid arguments on both sides of the issue, I am glad he has been released and hope he can get his life in order and I hope he gets the help he needs.

That said, let's plan a "chicken coop group" get together! Should we wait a year and make it an annual event or celebrate now? I can host a gathering here in BCS if enough of the group is interested. Heck, I'll even invite elinvestigator. We wouldn't even exist had it not been for him. Who's in? Let's hear some suggestions.....:bounce::bounce::bounce:

Hope he gets his life together & with family & friends he should have a good chance to do that. Some on here pointing at him calling him a "nut case" really should stop & think how many on this site already know who the "nut cases" are. At least he wasn't deported twice only to sneak back into our well secured USA border to be involved in killing two law enforcement officers. In talking with Americans they are upset about those being deported for criminal acts are not locked up instead of being released only to do more harm. Good for Mexico Judge using better choices before him than those acting hostile & hating on this Veteran Marine. When living in a glass house be careful when throwing rocks at others. Peace be with this Veteran Marine & all other veterans who went into combat to protect our FREEDOMS. Take Care & Travel Safe. "No Hurry, No Worry, Just FUN!" bajafun777

No, the point is where is your outrage over this situation where officers lives were lost by a KNOWN CRIMINAL DEPORTEE!! This Marine did nothing like that in Mexico. His incident was not even close but some of those calling him a "nut case" or trying to say he was in movement to shoot someone with his weapons just made up what ifs to continue attacks on him. So, get outraged over something that is REAL & endangers our friends, relatives, kids & LAW ENFORCEMENT!! We have KNOWN deported criminal individuals within the USA & no OUTRAGE over that just with this Veteran Marine. Just tried of seeing people writing attacks on this Veteran Marine & just tired of it in comparing his incident to the really bad stuff going on in USA by criminals deported back into Mexico for FAR worse offenses. All of the concern for Mexico but none for USA, just tired of seeing that over & over by those of us that really know better but have been letting it go. Let this Man get whatever assistance HE NEEDS instead of those that keep doing the USA wrong getting chance after chance. I have said all I intend to say on this, as not going to be baited into stupid back & forth on this matter. Take Care & Travel Safe

BF777...Those are valid points, for sure....We wont know why the Marine did what he did, or what influenced it. But we know for sure that he was a serving Marine in a major conflict. That means something, at least to me. Lets hope he gets on with his life, and does what needs done. Semper Fi.

Any minority. I really doubt Fox News and the lunatics that wanted to block the border entrances would have made such a stink had the Marine been a minority. Do you disagree?

Any by the way, my kids want a chicken coop group hoodie.

Kgryfon - 11-1-2014 at 08:47 PM

Frankly, I was expecting a graphic of someone wiggling their fingers from their nose and saying nanny-nanny-boo-boo! from you know who. I'm impressed by his restraint - only one stupid graphic so far.

I'm all for this guy getting treatment. Doesn't mean I believe his story for a minute, nor do I condone him driving around anywhere with loaded weapons and a huge stash of ammo. Mexico, Ca, Florida. Wherever. If he's unfit to be tried he should be remanded to a facility where he gets treated until he is. Just like everyone else who is judged incompetent for trial. He's a danger to himself and others, clearly. I hope he gets the help he needs and I hope he's kept off the streets until he no longer poses a threat due to his mental illness. This from someone who has been on the receiving end of dealing with someone with PTSD. All the sympathy for his issues and gratitude for his service won't mean a lot to his victims or their families if he really goes off.

If he were black, you're right, we wouldn't be talking about it. He would have been released long ago. Al, Reggie, Eric and Barack would have been at the border the next day demanding all sorts of stuff and making all sorts of accusations of racism etc. So I would have to agree with you, we wouldn't be talking about it 8 months later. Is that what you meant with your observation?

I think tee shirts, hoodies, tank tops etc. are a great idea, maybe elinvestigator could provide some design suggestions for our official logo.:bounce::bounce:

Easily refuted by the facts. Jabin Bogan, a 27 year old black truck driver, accidentally drove a truck full of military grade ammo into Mexico in 2012. He spent seven months in jail, same as Tahmooressi. Obama wasn't able to do a thing.

No sitting president can openly interfere with an ongoing criminal trial in a foreign country. All negotiations have to be conducted discreetly, as they were in this case.

In the original transcript for trial, he admits he was in Mexico, and we all know what usually goes on in the motel room rented by the hour. All the more reason that he was "exhausted" when he walked across the border, got in his car in the parking lot and made a wrong turn, thinking he was heading back to San Diego. I made exactly the same turn when going to the Dentist in Tijuana. I understand the anti-gun nuts who wanted to fry this guy out of some kind of displaced anger towards firearms, but 8 months was actually a pretty long time for a small error in driving. But hey, he is out, and will probably now have to resort to the Vetran's Hospital for treatment, but it all has to look good after 8 months in Hell.

wessongroup - 11-2-2014 at 09:46 AM

Dittos ... and imagine driving with unloaded guns was something he picked up while in the Marines and in a "combat zone"

I support the "troops" ... not the war or what ever we have been calling these things since the end of WWII

There are of course "exceptions' in some cases

This strikes a different chord in my debate on this particular veteran's case; the case of ''what the frack do we do with him now?" . So many postings have been made to his potential, which I can attest to are none too well.... but WHO IS going to take him in now? MOMMY? She had him, 'let' him go to San Diego on his own with an arsenal 'to keep him comfy' and seek help for his PTSD on his own, and his friends there certainly weren't keeping him in check going hooker-ing in TJ (the rest is history), and........ now what?

Also documented is the daunting effects of PTSD on our society, starting with Audie Murphy (in film history; WW1 called it 'shell-shocked', Korea later called it 'brain-washing'), and our spouses that had to endure our endless hours, weeks, months and years of fear, confusion and frustrations of their husbands and wives who gave so much and ....... came back with so much........ too much to endure alone, and too much to be able to share. Ain't it a biatch.

Race was brought up (no chit?). Mr. Tahmooressi's father was Iranian..... now ain't that a coincidence? NOT politically by any means imaginable, but shows the depth of the person who first stated race (or religion) in the first place. If any 'card' was thrown, it was the 'veteran' card. 44 years ago, it would be the 'Rambo' card, he'd been a baby-killer pot-smoking gun-nut (did someone recently mention 'gun-nut'?).

Bajadogs, i'd be the first to welcome him into my house, even if he was a dumbsheeit jarhead marine. We both fought and died a little for OUR country, and with tears and fears we could communicate our experiences that no one, and I mean NO ONE on earth can relate to, kind of like two lunar astronauts talking about what it'd be like to walk on The Dust......

These last wars outlasted Vietnam. I'm eternally sorry for that. So will the Walking Wounded. Bless 'em, ONE AND ALL. Be thankful he never used those weapons in his truck (yet) and hopefully he never will. And for you Walking Wounded out there in Baja, please, clear your weapons. Put 'em down.

bb.

I have a PTSD diagnosis with the VA. Can I park on your street? :o

And, how about your street...or should I be locked up pending your approval of my condition?

EnsenadaDr - 11-3-2014 at 08:10 AM

From what I read, this is one of the first cases Mexico has tried in the Courts concerning PTSD. Off the record though, I can imagine the Judge justifying his decision and rubbing elbows with his colleagues stating, "Good riddance to the crazy American". Americans have a reputation in Mexico for being wild and crazy. They sure like our money however. This by no means reflects my opinion, I feel the boy made a stupid mistake like we all do in our youth. He paid a sufficient punishment. And should be adequately treated for PTSD as I don't believe it was addressed while he was in prison.

Well, thank you, Chuckaroo. Can I bring my landmine collection? I want to showcase the new Camo Claymore I recently bought in South-Central.

KABOOM!

rts551 - 11-3-2014 at 09:02 AM

quote from his attorney.

Tahmooressi’s attorney, Fernando Benítez, expects few kudos from his peers for winning the case: “They believe the Mexican government bowed down to the American government and said, “Yes sir, here he is.”

Sitting in his Tijuana law offices on Saturday amid tall stacks of case files, Benítez said that Mexican federal prosecutors made a courageous and correct move by withdrawing their accusations based on Tahmooressi's need for treatment in the United States. "The public is not pleased with Andrew being released. They feel it was a deal between politicians and not the work of the courtroom,” the attorney said.

shari - 11-3-2014 at 09:33 AM

I would go parking with Dennis anytime!

I think it was a good decision to be done with Tahmooressi ...let the USA deal with the problem...oh and for the record...Mexicans appreciate ANY money spent in their country...not just from Americans...they dont care what nationality you are when you support their economy.

I don't think I could count on that, so I'll just stay out of trouble.

By the way...I doubt his attorneys did the Pro Bono thing.

News flash!!! "South-Central" is a no-no now. Negative connotation to beautiful Angelinos. "South L.A." is the verbiage now. Unfortunately they can't change the lifestyle as easy.

Must have changed when it went from Black to Brown. I couldn't care less.
Thanks for the update.

Kgryfon - 11-3-2014 at 06:09 PM

Would I want you on my street since you have been diagnosed with PSTD too? Well, yes, of course I would since you're a great guy! ...but then again you aren't packing three loaded, illegal guns (including an assault rifle per the article), and over four hundred rounds of ammo, and haven't been judged incompetent to stand trial because of paranoid delusions of persecution and being followed. If you were, I'd say you should probably get help before you're let loose on the public again.

elgatoloco - 11-3-2014 at 06:10 PM

There was a marine in jail?

bajaguy - 11-3-2014 at 06:54 PM

Which weapons were illegal???

They were legally purchased in Florida. The only weapon that would be illegal in California was the AR-15......

The ones that were carried loaded in the front seat of Tahmooressi's pickup truck, in violation of California law. You think if he'd been intercepted by the CHP or San Diego sheriff they would have said, "Oh, he's a PTSD-addled ex-Marine who bought these legally in Florida, so it's ok." Doubt that.

DITTO

RECIPIES? :

2 lbs horsehockey

1 lb. bag

mix liberally,

stir,

repack if necessary.

Ms. Gryfon, I not only feel for your pain, but with it as well. Your pain is felt by those who inflict too, if you look without your judgmental glasses on. You lived with it, but escaped. The rest of us don't have that option; PTSD is not 'cure-able', just 'adaptable' and some adapt better than others. Schizophrenia has better luck with meds than ours. I'm sorry for your loss; you too, are a casualty of WAR.

chuckie - 11-4-2014 at 02:48 AM

I spent some time yesterday at the VA clinic in Pueblo Colorado. I stopped at a BBQ place on the way back up the mountain. Turns out they were caterer types, not a restaurant. Nice lady GAVE me a bag of ribs, said they cooked too much for the gig they were working....Made my day!

Doubt anyone would pay for his autograph. His only claim to fame is getting arrested entering TJ to visit a prostitute,... Autographs of dumb scumball men are not marketable.

And he is not bright enough to speak on TV. What would he say? The inarticulate grunts of a lunatic don't boost ratings, unless they are comedic, which is not the case here.

Why do you and your antithesis anti-man-crush ( or is it? ) DK always have to use the word: "OURS?" all the time?

Please tell me, w(ho)tf ever died and made you spokesman and website director?

Didn't DK already tell you he's #2 here (and if you don't know, just ask him), so where do you really lie on the Chain Of Command? Just asking.

Old saying, "if it don't stink, don't stir it".

Things a little stagnant around your house? Not enough excitement in the world these days? Hurricanes, dengue fever, damage, drugs, dicktherea (Cosby), boneheadism (DK)...

Do you fish?

Disparage Marines because you couldn't get in? What a dumb F you are. You're not worthy to shine his boots.
