BarryA MIA?

tripledigitken - 11-10-2014 at 12:05 PM

Has any heard from BarryA? It's been quite awhile since he's posted.

Fatboy - 11-10-2014 at 12:28 PM

7/3/14 was last post.

Hook - 11-10-2014 at 12:32 PM

Send him a U2U.

When I disappear each summer, I get a few, inquiring if I am OK.

tripledigitken - 11-10-2014 at 12:38 PM

I have U2U'd him. I was hoping to hear from someone that had spoken with him.

Vince - 11-10-2014 at 01:47 PM

He responded to my email two days ago. All OK then.

tripledigitken - 11-10-2014 at 03:03 PM

Thanks Vince

DianaT - 11-10-2014 at 05:22 PM

I received an e-mail from him on 10/29 --- I will check and let him know people are asking.

Opps, I did not see Vince's post --- so nevermind, except I did tell him people were asking. :-)

Barry and I exchange email... If he has something to share, he will. I hope he will get more active again, as it is nice to hear from someone with so much desert Ranger experience and common sense and love of Baja, as Barry has.

DianaT - 11-10-2014 at 06:46 PM

Just heard back --- he is alive and well for the most part. He does check in now and again.

Barry is a great guy. And although it's probably none of my/ our business, I do find it curious that he has seemingly withdrawn from participating here.

We have lost several amigos/ nomads, over the years... and not just from natural causes. There is a point when the debating or criticizing about what someone posts just not fun or entertaining anymore. The Nomad who posts only to have someone yell at him for showing a forbidden surf break, or road data, or that he hasn't been to Baja recently so he has no 'right' to share here is a turn off to the Nomad.

Any Baja conversation is welcome here and a lot of non-Baja is as well. If the owner of this site (Doug) doesn't want a certain type of topic discussed, it is his business.

I hope people don't let the noisy minority blow them away, because the majority here love to read about Baja , see photos about Baja, and share things about Baja... that's what a Baja discussion forum is all about!

LancairDriver - 11-11-2014 at 03:57 PM

There is a predictable element here who can't wait for certain parties to post and initiate sarcasm and baiting comments which invariably diverts the tone of the original thread. You have to appreciate the majority who sincerely contribute or try to gather information on BAJA related topics. It can be very annoying to see the pattern repeated again and again by the same parties who obviously have nothing better to do with their lives. When certain Nomads post a comment or topic you can count on the same suspects jumping in to berate and taunt with the same childish comments they apparently think are cute or clever that worked for them in second grade.

Barry A. - 11-11-2014 at 03:58 PM

Thanks for the nice comments, and inquiry.

I am doing ok. It was just coming to a point that due to me not going to Baja CA for quite a while, I did not think my comments were relevant, or certainly not current, anymore. David K is correct in that the contentiousness put forth by a few NOMADS was just getting old, and I did not need to read that anymore as it is pretty depressing, and so unnecessary.

I still read some of the posts, but normally only those that are about back-country Baja and tin-boat fishing as that has always been my main interest and activity in Mexico.

Somehow I became un-registered, and that has never happened before----could not post, nor u2u. I re-registered and that was no problem, so here I am, but will limit my actual input unless I have something I think would be helpful.

You folks are great!!! Viva Baja!!!

Barry

Hello Barry. Nice to see you're still alive! :)

How refreshing to read that I'm not alone in sharing this sentiment. I'm waiting for the day to get attacked but somehow it hasn't happened yet.

And a certain few LOVE to just drop contentious political statements in threads where there is reason for same, and then scream innocent when others disagree or call him out on doing so. Major troll stuff.

Good to hear from you Barry.

Well said as well. I just figure the good is enhanced by the bad and sites like this would sound a bit too rehearsed without the anal orifice checking in now and then.

Mexitron - 11-11-2014 at 04:40 PM

Hey Barry, you're one of the level-headed people on Nomads who I can discuss topics with and either agree or disagree but always politely. Don't be a stranger--your past Baja experience is enough.

Bajahowodd - 11-11-2014 at 04:52 PM

My point accomplished. Barry checked in. That's all I was looking for.

DENNIS - 11-11-2014 at 05:14 PM

May not always be in Baja, but always in a conservative frame of mind. [tombstone material]

OK folks...let's not go crazy on this sentiment. I'm having a couple, doncha know.

yeah, well DK there are those of us who have just as much desire to appreciate the things that make us get up and head south in the ZEROdarkTHIRTY so we can enjoy the areas you don't go.

I'm a fan of Barry, as we all are, and love to hear from the guys who were there prior to me, 35 years ago - even you!

your jabs are childish. we've covered this subject AD NAUSEUM for years. we all have a stake in Baja, and the places we care about. you aren't the moderator so stop chastising negative posts as they are dealt with rapidly, in one way or another.

edit: we support the following with much more than GPS, fotos or the like. I'm not trying to start another "endless story" I just think your jabs are not warranted.....:

how do you give back to the places that have shaped your life?

David K - 11-11-2014 at 06:13 PM

All the time Woody... more people are going to Baja without fear because of Baja Nomad posted trip reports disclosing how it really is south of the border.

I am currently doing lectures on the mission sites and answering questions about the safety of going to Mexico. I promote travel to Baja all the time, and I know it is a limited area of interest.

I don't care if you don't share where you go camping, just don't tell me I cannot share mine.

I tried to be friendly and even edited my 'Seven Sisters trip report heavily for you by request in 2007, did you forget? I always look and report on the positive side to help Mexican business and people in Baja... but to try and be friendly to you sir, I called the area cold, cloudy, unappealing, with ugly fish camps... and did not post any GPS figures, either. You never appreciated that.

woody with a view - 11-11-2014 at 06:22 PM

agreed, I am getting mellower as the seasons progress but I still feel the jabs and can read between the lines.

nobody wants to shut out the new folks.
