Massive demonstration planned in Tijuana this Sunday for missing Mexican students

"Ya Me Canse" is the motto of this demonstration. Ya Me Canse means "I am tired already". This is what the Mayor stated to the press and the people when he was asked questions about the missing students. Native Tijuanenses are planning a civil demonstration at the Cuauhtemoc Glorietta in Zona Rio. Tijuana, a public outcry to return, dead or alive, the missing students this coming Sunday, December 16th, at 5:30 PM. Ya Me Canse has a double meaning, the people of the Mexican Republic are tired and want answers now.

That is the literal translation doc, what he said was 'Enough, I am tired of this".

He could have said "Ya basta!" but that is a bit more crude.

How I found out the difference of the meaning of basta and Ya, was in class my teacher said, the class is dismissed. And I said, now? And she answered, "YA" and she explained YA meant now. Basta is enough. You have to live the language to experience it Greengoes.

This links to a photo. I saw no reference to a planned demonstration on November 16 (not Dec. 16 i assume). Will you please guide us to your news source? I'm sure I've missed something.

Maria Rubio a very well connected Tijuana socialite, who attends all the high level functions in Tijuana posted it on her page. She was a high level administrator working in health care in San Diego and is a very reliable information source. However I just put in the information in Google and came up with many news sources.

Citing a news source that references quotes makes all the difference in credible reporting.
I'm glad they're emphasizing a peaceful tone to the planned convocation.
Perhaps a Baja Nomad will attend and do a follow-up report.

Yep. Did she also mention there is no literal translation to English of ya? Kinda like se. We may be in murky waters doc. You went to school for Spanish? Ya Garantizado o dinero atras!

No Greengoes it was my medical school. I didn't speak much Spanish when I started so I sort of learned as I went along.

An article I read (sorry, did not keep the URL) indicated that he was expressing his degree of fatigue as he had not slept in 40 hours.

Lots can be lost in the translation....and the phrase is being applied in different ways, depending on the person using it in response to this tragedy....

I believe Murillo Karam WAS using the phrase as an indicator of how tired he was.

Problem is, what he said just happened to sum up the frustration that so many Mexicans in this country feel; with respect to the grip that the cartels have on this country. It pervades their police forces, their political parties, their prison system, their judicial system......even their military, at times.

What's left?

Remember how Calderon refused to use the Mexican army for big incursions against the cartels because they always got advanced notice? The Mexican Navy was the only branch he trusted.

Yes, Karam was tired. But it was inevitable that it would be used in the manner it has been by the average Mexican. The frustration has gotten too great. And it sums up the feelings of many in this country (not just protesters) so perfectly.

The man is the Attorney General of Mexico. After an hour long interview he made that statement after not being able to answer questions. Maybe he is a good guy but he screwed the pooch when he said that.

It is similar to Mr. Holder saying "I'm outta here" and then resigning.

Watching a lot of news daily (mostly Fox, CNBC, MSNBC with a little RT) I've seen a couple of 30-second asides.

Possibly CNN is covering it. I wouldn't know. Turner and Dish are having a snit fit and ALL Turner programs are GONE.

I suppose if the TJ Riot Spews enough Blood, there may be some coverage, but I wouldn't bet on it.

A new report posted on CNN yesterday has some officials claiming that the killing of the 43 students might have been a case of mistaken identity between two rival gangs. Apparently, they are asking the world to believe that these students were mistaken for gang members? Gang members without weapons, arriving in buses? :rolleyes:
