Does anyone have first hand post Odille road conditions into SJ?
I have a F350 4X4 with a large heavy camper on it that I really don't want to get beat up too bad. It use to be around 90 minutes from highway #1,
time is secondary to getting my rig beat up.
Are there still those new (around 2 years old) palapas standing on the beach?

As of last May, the road north of Insurgentes and Santo Domingo, was torn up for about 10 miles.
It was loose pulvo dust and even my following partner had to engage 4x.
There was major rework going on there.
Sorry I don't have further scoop on that section, post storms.
And as of last May also, the beach palapas are there.
2 are on the right as one goes down the ramp to get on the beach, and 6-8 more to the left.
Beware that the 2 on the right can become a small lake on a full/new moon tide.
I woke up one morning and the water was 6" deep where I step out of the camper.
Surf fishing sucked....not one bite over 3 days....morning or night.

I think TW just posted his report of that route yesterday. Try the search function. Didn't sound bad.

"Hit pavement at San Juanico. Pavement good to arroyo crossing way west of La Purisima bridge out. Again detour around it. Highway OK until road
construction north of Santo Domingo. Pavement good down to hwy 1." -TW

There's currently about 10 miles of road construction on #53 between Insurgentes and the turn off to Barrancas. For a while, you could drive on the
new pavement while they were working and only had about 4 miles of dirt path along the construction zone. But last week they were steering you off the
pavement again and it was about 8 miles of driving on the powdery dirt side road. You never know... They keep the dirt road in pretty good shape but
it's really dusty so seal the camper up tight.
There are still 2 water crossings between Las Barrancas and San Juanico and one is subject to tidal flow but neither is too deep. The pavement is gone
in several spots and you'll have some cobblestone driving on the last stretch but it's not extremely far. You'll have to slow down so much with a
heavy camper that I doubt you do damage but it will be swaying on the rocky parts.
Under normal conditions it takes us 1 hour to get to Insurgentes- last week it took 1.5 hrs. There's lots of dump truck traffic during the day in the
construction area and you have to pull to the side frequently to let them through which adds to the time.
as usual, especially near Poza Grande and outside of SJ.
Town Beach Palapas-
Marie loosened them, Norbert knocked them off their feet, and Odile made kindling. A few have been kind of "re-planted" in the sand.
