Taking my boat down to Sonora next week end. The kids have 3 BB guns on it.
I would just take them off, but the boat is already in AZ and I'd have to essentially throw them away.

Throw them away, they cost nothing. Mexico is Mexico, rules change, Who knows what could happen. Why risk it?chuckie - 11-16-2014 at 05:15 PM
Give em to someone, In Mexico the guy in front of you with the gun makes the rules....greengoes - 11-16-2014 at 05:21 PM
I think they are OK as long as the BB caliber isn't military or police size.alacran - 11-16-2014 at 05:30 PM
Air guns are OK, I bought 2 in La Paz, cal. 22bajabuddha - 11-16-2014 at 06:28 PM
They are totally legal, HOWEVER; I strongly suggest unloading them, put the BB's in a little bottle or back in the box while you're travelling, then
plink away all you like... .177 or .22 air rifles are totally legal. Mine has two notches (skunks) on the stock.woody with a view - 11-16-2014 at 06:32 PM
i always thought .177 was the largest caliber? hmmm.bajabuddha - 11-16-2014 at 10:31 PM
Woody, if it's air-powered, ok. Rimfire, NADA. Even a .22 rimfire round will put you behind bars.
I did without for many years; back in my 'pony-tail' daze and traveling single, I was searched by a contingent of Federales in Bahia LA (late '90s)
and they found just BB's in my trailer; they went ballistic on me. 2 hour long search, I wasn't worried; the rifle was Stateside. They were lividly
pizzed they didn't find my BB gun THEN... since, legalese states it's ok, I've pressed the issue, when asked said ''yes, here it is'', showed
unloaded, no problema what so ever.
You'd think things would change in Baja.... dang, they do! AIRE ES OK.ehall - 11-17-2014 at 04:20 AM
If you are going to cross at Lukeville the bar on the right going into why will store them for you. If you are going thru buckeye drop them off at my
house. Pick them up on the way back.briantroy - 11-17-2014 at 04:54 AM
I accidentally left a pump bb gun in the back of my van. Just your fully loaded Daisy standard issue. Three Mexican inspection guards at the San
Ysidro border, including a female, took turns laughing and shooting it at the wall before throwing it back in the van. Nobody said anything.

Air guns
tehag - 11-17-2014 at 10:47 AM
Air guns are legal in Baja N&S. Shooting or shooting at any of a myriad of protected species, or in a nature preserve, or in most parks, or too
close to this or that can be an expensive nightmare at best and up to nine years in prison at worst. Do your homework before you use any kind of
shooty thingy down here. Anywhere, actually.Bob53 - 11-17-2014 at 11:06 AM

I could have sworn that I read that somewhere a while back about pellets and bbs.Pompano - 11-17-2014 at 11:23 AM
The pellet gun question has been asked many times. Of course, it's all up to the Mexican official asking the questions. But here is the written law
and some answers, for what that's worth. 'Nothing is as it says' is the norm.
I'm one of those that is hinky about anything that requires
an interpretation by Mex Customs or an 18 yr.old Mex Army
kid, just never seemed worth it. At the Checkpoint so. of
Ensenada, this Mensa is looking at a glue applicator I had for inflatable repairs, here I was explaining it was not a

The ultimate deterrent may be a spear gun, one of those
5 ft. blue water jobs. Hope I nor anyone else is else is put in
that position, as I'm under the impression that a casual Tourist
would not want to explain being responsible for grave injury or worse to a Mex NationalBob53 - 11-18-2014 at 12:12 PM

Just keep them it out of sight & unloaded. The last thing you need is a corrupt cop/official looking for any excuse to give you a fine...Marc - 11-21-2014 at 05:58 PM

Brought two of them down. No issues. I saw them for sale at a gas station too.
1. Legal to possess in Mexico; and
2. Legal to import.
When doing this 'research' myself, I found few problems with the former and lots and lots of problems with the latter.
YMMVbajalearner - 1-12-2015 at 09:01 AM
I would take them. But if you don't want to take them, call the police or highway patrol office in the US city where you will cross the border and
ask if you could stop there and leave the BB guns for the time you will be in MX. That's if you will come back thru the same crossing.
Most offices close at 5pm and on weekends so you have to drop and pick up during business hoursusually. I would tell the Sgt. I will give them a
signed note saying I will return on a certain date and if I don't show up, they should consider the guns as abandoned property and dispose of them.
If you don't get a yes from one office try other offices/agencies. A smaller office may be more responsive. Or a fire station because their hours
are more flexible. Whoever you try, I would call in advance and get a supervisor's approval and name.

They aren't illegal. When the term "import" comes up, it's a whole different thing...like who imports groceries?
They do in fact sell pellet guns in grocery stores here. Just bring it in and leave the hysterical paranoia behind. bajaguy - 1-12-2015 at 10:29 AM
