Wow!

They begin service 14 Dec to San Felipe from San Diego. There are 4 fare levels to choose from and prices vary according to supply and demand, of course. A one day Dec 21st from San Diego to San Felipe for example, was quoted at 126.88 all taxes included. Return fare for a 1 week stay came in at 268.81. They are partners with Alaskan Air so this should provide some great options for people...convenient but not cheap. Here's hoping this service is successful.

I was in SF for the shrimp fest a couple weeks back and spoke with someone from seaportair about this. they mentioned their prices are "shooting for around 200 bucks round trip". we"ll see!

With just 9 passengers this is an expensive flight for the airline to operate. Great that they are giving it a try! Almost like flying in a private plane.

On the way home from San Felipe once I "walked" back across the border, caught the Seaport flight from Imperial County to San Diego and then a flight home. It was a really great little airline. The staff was very friendly. Made flying easy. I was a bit nervous about the size of the plane....I had never flown on a plane where you can see the Pilot, but everything was smooth. I'd recommend giving them a try. We have family coming to see us in San Felipe at Christmas and I am suggesting this option for them.

Perhaps the new 'official' airline of Baja Nomad? :light:

only 9 seats seems odd for caravans. why are they set up with so few seats? the commercial air caravans operated in baja got seats setup to carry 12 or 13 passengers.

anybody been on seaports planes able to tell us why they got so few seats?

The thing to note is there are no car rentals in SF so the options are a taxi or have local friend meet you.

9 passseners

akshadow - 11-24-2014 at 10:14 AM

it appears that 9 passengers is a limit to be able to operate under certain part 135 rules FAA , maybe this is why limited to 9.

2-460 CONCEPT OF A BASIC PART 135 OPERATOR. Basic part 135 operators are limited in size and scope. This paragraph establishes conditions that an operator must meet to qualifyas a basic part 135 operator and specifies the extent of authorized deviations from the manual, management personnel, and training program requirements of part 135. Basic part 135 operators are required to have management personnel, manuals, and training curriculums adapted to their smaller, less complex operations. Subparagraphs 2-464C, D, and E discuss these requirements in detail. For classification as a basic part 135 operator, the operator must meet each of the following conditions and limitations:

· No more than five pilots, including SICs, are used in the operation.

· No more than five aircraft are used in the operation.

· No more than three different types of aircraft are used in the operation.

· No aircraft type certificated for more than nine passenger seats is used in the operation.

· No Category II (CAT II) or CAT III operations are conducted.

· No operations are conducted outside the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean (which includes the Bahamas).

Almost $400 R/T makes for very expensive tacos!! San Felipe is approximately 500 miles over and back from my house in San Diego. That's less than $100 in gas. Guess it depends on what your time is worth.

Thanks Riom for your report. That is inexpensive considering the costs to operate when carrying just 9 passengers.
