renting a car?

Hi all

I've been investigating car rentals for a 10 day trip in late March. If I want to get a small SUV (Jeep Wrangler) from Thrifty/Budget/Alamo type places then I am stuck with car rental prices of about $75 per day for my 10 day trip. This seems high. Are there any local Mexican car rental places that have lower prices and are reputable (reliable cars)? Any ideas on where to get lower car rental prices would be appreciated. We'll be driving from La Paz to Loreto and then up to Guerrero Negro and back. We may need to take some of those famous side dirt roads to go see whales and such, and I was thinking I would need 4whl drive to get over those. Maybe I'm wrong.

Thanks!

don't worry about 4wd. just be aware and know your limitations. most of the bcs dirt roads are dry. if you get into the salt flats, beware!:o
