FLIES

BAJA.DESERT.RAT - 12-2-2014 at 07:10 PM

Hola,

has anyone heard of putting a slice of an onion in a half gallon bottle filled half way with water and it attracts flies to their death ?

or is there another way to get rid of them ?

I've never heard of it, but if it works I'll be all over it! This past summer we used a battery operated tennis racquet style fly/mosquito swatter. I swear I had the worst case of tennis elbow EVER by the end of August. An onion in a jar of water sounds much easier on my body.

Lemme know if it works.

I bought a 'fly-catcher' water trap (several of 'em) from a local hardware store to take south. The work fabulously, only when full, then whaddayado? I'd watch 'em fill up with maggots working on their mom's n' pop's, and then RAID the whole bag, then......... what? Chuck the bag? More flies? However, the water-bags (with a stink-bait and trap-top) DO work great.

ADDENDUM:
I was 100' from the 'fish-cleaning station' and had FLIES. First, put it AWAY from your domicile/sitting area, because it stinks, and the flies are all over you... Second, get rid of it FAR AWAY when you do toss it. I found it was good for 2-3 weeks, tops.

we use to buy fly traps...but now make them. Old jars (wide mouth work best) and drill holes n the top for the flies to enter. little beer and water (just a little beer, you don't want to waste it on flies) as bait. oh and works best when placed a little ways away from where you do not want flies (attract them away).

Some great ideas
thks

learned it from the locals. they would take their beer cans and strategically place them to draw the flies away while partying in Campo Rene. I added the jar part so the flies could not get back out.
