Thanks to this forum for the helpful answers about renting a place a few weeks ago. We decided to camp and are now setup with our third truck camper,
a well equipped 05 Lance on an 03 GMC Sierra 2500HD short bed. We have traveled several times to Baja, included an extended trip back in 2001 where
we camped for about a week at the end of the airstrip next to the tuna cannery in Lopez Mateos. This was one of our favorite places. Is it still a
place to camp? I don't see it listed anywhere, so I thought I'd ask the experts.
Also....
is it realistic to do a loop from south of Guerrero Negro to Bahia Asuncion, to Punta Abreojos, to San Ignacio? It looks like some of the roads are
paved down there..
Our last trip was about 10 or 11 years ago and we have never been down those roads..
Thanks!

Hi Pati & Jay and welcome to the sanbox! Many people do the central coast loop. The rough part is between La Bocana and San Hipolito (prounounced
San Eepolly-TOE) where it isnt graded but both entrances from Vizcaino and Fisher Camp are fully paved to the coast....huge difference from the last
time you were out here.
The big news is that the coast road from Asuncion to Pta.Prieta will be paved this spring!!! The plan is to pave the whole loop which will be really
great for the coastal villages.

Thanks so much for the response. I'm wondering if anyone knows about Lopes Mateos?

Beautiful area. Sounds like more changes. One of my favorite exploration areas. Mula will chime in re Lopez. Enjoy and give us your trip report,
por favor. Tio

My internet has been being 'iffy'.
The airstrip is owned by the local Cannery who has a new owner from Guaymas as of last February.
Planes come and go a lot with whale watchers from January thru the first of April, so no camping then.
And in the 4 years here, other than the Flying Sam's clinics on the 3rd Saturday of every month, I have never seen anyone camping there.
There is a parking lot at the what watching dock area - right next to the Cannery - but that too would be a nightmare camping spot during Whale
Watching months.
If you want to be right in town, mmmmm... MagBayOutfitters has a sign up for RV space with hookups.
I have a vacant cleared, fenced lot next door to my house - about 5 blocks from downtown, but not beachfront.

Mule.
Thanks so much. That is the information I was looking for, if not what I was hoping. I have wonderful memories of camping there, but I guess we won't
be reliving them this trip.
