Mexican insurance and crossing at Calexico

Johnny7 - 12-11-2014 at 11:46 AM

Hi,
my wife and I are crossing from California into Baja with a truck and 5th wheel and heading to San Felipe in mid December. I think we'll cross at Calexico. What do we need for insurance/travel visa and where would you recommend we get these?
Any tips would be appreciated.

Get your insurance on-line at BajaBound (see banner at the top of this page). I believe that you will need insurance for the trailer also. If you have any insurance questions, call Geoff at BajaBound.

How long will you be in Mexico? The daily rate is far higher than monthly or annual rates.
I made a planned three week trip last fall (2013) and found that buying a year of coverage cost less than the three weeks I would be there! So, I paid for a year, and the six weeks I just spent S.O.B. was already covered!

There are 2 crossings into Mex at Calexico, the Old Downtown
Mexicali crossing and the newer east crossing, 7 mi east of
Calexico. 5th I would consider the east crossing , a bit less
restrictive traffic driving. I'm one of those that likes to have
things in a row, so an fmm tourist card is what I would get , free
for 7 days , $23 for 180 days. Mex Immigrtion is at the east
crossing, get tourist card there. As posted, getting Ins at the
border is a thing of the past, HDI from bajabound, ask them
how much libility they suggest
