We are on a roll here!

BajaBlanca - 12-11-2014 at 06:12 PM

More fun this holiday season! I had a brainstorm and told the middle schoolers that we would have a contest to see which class donated the most food for the old mens' home DianaT told us about and this is the winning class! The 8th graders will get a cake and brownies tomorrow during recess!

The box is full of flour and noodles and cookies.....

Every student in middle school in La Bocana got a mechanical pencil and we love playing around!

I forgot to mention that one kid donated canned ABALONE!

Those ancianos are in for a treat.

Blanca, that is WONDERFUL and such a great idea! While helping the elderly, you are training the youth. GREAT. You do so much good!

Penny, our friend who you will meet soon, has really changed things for them. There are now some teenagers from the local ejido who are visiting the grandpas on a regular basis --- just to visit, talk, play games, walk, etc.

She also visited the Mission Church that is somewhat involved and they have promised more help for Jose and Angela.

She approached a doctor in Camalu, and in her words, "Dr. Banderas from Camalu is donating his time to help with medical needs, diet and exercise programs. He will come to house to do Wellness checks so our Grandpas don't have to go to his office!

AND --- in her words "I also found a Lab in Vicente Guerro (sic) that will do blood tests for Free!"

But they will continue to need donations --- right now, her current immediate list is:

"We really need Vitamins, Calcium, Protien drinks, electrolytes, canned fruits, vegetablrs, hearty soups, juices, and canned Meats as well as paper products, cleaning supplies, Depends, and Lots of Love,! "

A number of nomads have responded which is great, and the needs continue!

Recently a very nice donation was left there by someone I am almost sure communicated with me, but the old memory is failing me, Since some people don't want their full names exposed here, I will just say it was a Ron with a last name of 6 letters that begins with L. If you read this, please let me know, it you so desire.

Blanca, I also know that you are going to deliver that "lost' donation --- thank you, and thank you for finding just another way to help the grandpas, while also building real character in your students!

And if every visitor headed south just dropped off a couple of items, wow, that would be wonderful --- It takes about 10 minutes.

On edit --- I love the photos as middle school students are part crazy, wild and quite wonderful

Soup? oh yes, a very good thing and THANK YOU.

I hope you will post what you think about the place after you visit.

Penny says that there have been a number of donations of various sizes where people have not left their names. That, of course, if a person's choice. She likes to have names and contacts info just so she can say THANK YOU. BUT --- names are NOT necessary --- food is.

So THANK you to all who have stopped by and did not leave a name. EVERY donation is very valuable and appreciated.

So, headed down for the holidays or headed home for the holidays, please think about dropping off a little food. This is a year round food drive!

And anyone who wants to know the most urgent needs can PM me and I will put you in contact with Penny.

Also, if anyone has a minute to do estate sales, they almost always have stuff that is new and well priced at the end of the sale. My mom got some incredible deals on stuff for these guys - most of it brand spankin' new!

Blanca and Penny are proof that one person CAN make a huge difference.:yes::yes:

And now, with a little help from their friends may it continue all through 2015.

Another great thing for the Home for the Grandpas! They now have a beautiful sign so no one can miss where to leave their donation.

Through my sister, who lives in the area and is very involved, Penny connected with another very valuable organization in the area, New Beginnings which is an ever growing home and safe haven for abused women and their children. And Stella from New Beginnings painted the sign and Eduardo, the husband of Dorothy who is the creator and director of New Beginnings delivered the sign. It is so great to see these great projects working to help each other.

Blanca, you would also love that place!
