INM to discontinue selling FMM permits to travel clubs?

I receive a monthly newsletter from Adavis Global, an insurance broker that sells auto insurance for vehicles going to Mexico. They are also a quasi-travel club as they handle fishing permits and pre-paid FMM tourist permits.

I'm really not sure how I got on their mailing list. It could be from past policies I had with Lewis and Lewis or Vagabundos............who knows?

Anyway, their newsletter today alludes to the Mexican INM taking back the complete issuance of FMM cards, instead of letting travel clubs sell them.

Quoting from the newsletter:

"Right now, as of today, the web site to pay for the FMM Tourist Visa has been taken down by the Mexican Immigration Department of Mexico. In addition, we've been told the MID of Mexico plans to take over the issuance of the FMM Tourist Visa once again. They told us this is because they feel, due to the terrorism threats in our world today, they want to be face to face with the people that are coming into their country."

Just passing along what this newsletter said.

Bet it's about money in some way or another.

I don't quite understand.

The prepaids that I have used only eliminated the run to the bank. You still had to meet at the border to fill in info, show your passport and get the almighty rubber stamp.

Yeah, well, it won't be the first or the last time something didn't make sense in Mexico.

If it even happens.

Never did understand paying the extra for a prepaid fmm,
may have something to do with the peso per dll changing.
The good old days,go to a AAA office, pick up free fmt's
use at will

Adavis is the outfit that had the kerfuffle with Vags, and apparently has their mailing lists. I get the same letter...I asked a while ago if they could provide the prepaid visas..and we exchanged emails...I like the prepaids because they do make the crossing easier, and if there are people waiting I just go to the head of the line....No running to the banks...No big deal but it works for me....
