Feliz Ano Nuevo!!!

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 05:57 PM

Caught whitefish and calicos the first day.

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 06:01 PM

My favorite room in all of Asuncion. Read about the Bataan death march and Hawking's book on the history of our planet.

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 06:03 PM

A stressful holiday.

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 06:05 PM

Nothing to do but look for treasures on the beach.

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 06:07 PM

After this find I decided on an egg breakfast the following morning.

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 06:09 PM

Some locals were catching young white seabass from the beach.

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 06:11 PM

But I know what you guys really want to see. Eye candy.

woody with a view - 12-31-2014 at 06:12 PM

i believe that is a corVina, not a corBina or a WSB.

enjoy the warmth!

Skipjack Joe - 12-31-2014 at 06:13 PM

OK, I'm not as good looking ... but the calico was nice.

Barry A. - 12-31-2014 at 06:14 PM

Super photos, and I like your camper and tin-boat set-up. My kind of Baja-rig, for sure.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

The old man gets into one.

Taking a breather now for New Years Eve.

Great trip pictures! And yes, at first glance, the rock in that one pictures sure looks like an egg!

Chayo sure looks good! Last we saw him, he was having back surgery so it is really good to see him looking so well.

I smiled when I saw the knife as once when we were out with him ripped it in half with his bare hands --- but the knife is a lot neater.

Thanks for the pictures --- Chayo, Emma and their family are among the people we really miss.

I spent a bit of time with "Chayo" as well. He seems to be a fine man. After the beach encounter I ran into him again at the tienda that sells fishing tackle, which he owns. It's a small town. You meet people over and over at different places.

He expanded that tienda when he was forced to retire from the co-op because of his back. He also used to be the head of the bike club. I hope his back has improved enough that he can ride. He is older than he looks and when our son visite, they would go riding together and Chayo went up and down those mountains like they were smooth flats! He is a very good man! It is good you spent a bit of time with him.

What a wonderful trip the two of you had. I'd say that side of the peninsula agrees with you.

Thank you for posting.

Super photos and comments.
Thanks all, happy New Year

Asuncion is baja's Mayberry RFD. Everyone knows everything about everyone.

At the restaurant I was asked whether Alex was my son or my grandson. I am accustomed with that question but wondered how far the interrogation would go. It went the distance.

She then asked me how old I was. I replied 68. And how old was my son, she wanted to know. I told her 18. There was a short pause while she did the math.

"Ah", her eyebrows rose with great significance. "Que bueno", she smiled.

Both sides agree with me.

I know you're enjoying your traditional new year's eve party at BOLA. Hope you decide to post them, Paulina.

Unfortunately this year we had had to opt out. I can't honestly remember the last time I spent NYE stateside and not in Bahia. I spent a fair portion of the evening looking back at the photos on my laptop, remembering the good times on the Diaz patio. As Dern said about ten minutes ago (before he started snoring), "next year..."
I am really missing my Bahia tradition, family and friends.

Happy New Year!

Paulina, last night at midnight I was remembering my first New Years Eve with Baja Angel, 10 years ago. We were with you and Dern at Casa Diaz, L.A. Bay, dancing and enjoying the event.

Alex's comment about Iflyfish dancing:

"He moves pretty good for an old man"

Actually he was looking forward to seeing him this year. Ric is right up there with Juan in the "wow" factor.

Tim apologized profusely for stepping into the picture. I tried to convince him that he made this picture.

When it was Izak's turn to choose Sirenita kept directing him to the jelly beans. But he would have none of that. Still she kept promoting the jelly beans. I thought to myself "What a wonderful mother, trying to get him to choose what he really wants".

Well Izak never did pick the beans but in a strange twist of fate Sirenita did. Turned out that she's the one with the sweet tooth.

Looks like you had a very fun Christmas, Igor.

I especially like that beach/sand image- straight from the Sea Goddess your very own Christmas tree complete with decoration :tumble::spingrin:

Yes - the sand art is beautiful!

Skipjack Joe - 1-1-2015 at 09:41 PM

Last picture.

It was early morning and time to leave. So I went to the bluff and took in the scene that had welcomed me every morning and shot this peaceful, full of hope image.

I love seeing our village through your eyes and lens Igor! Your photography is inspiring. We so look forward to seeing more of you and Alex in 2015!
