Can't find recent post on Motel south of San Quintin

Someone recently had very nice things to say about a motel (San Carlos????):?: Also had a nice restaurant. $30+$/nite.
I can't find the post and have friends leaving soon that seem made for the place. Help?

How far south of San Quintin?

There is Cielito Lindo where many, "Amigo's" and "Nomads" stay on their way south......(don't miss the Crab plate. or Laura's breakfast burritos at Gypsy's on the beach) ......(I'd avoid the "Maggie's" inless you have a room within crawing distance from the bar!

Also, others have talked about the "Old Mill", it's been several years since I've stayed there so I can't give current info.

Between the two towns?

There's a Hotel Chavez (?) on the west side of the highway, just north of the bridge... stayed there a year ago,... about $25, I think.... a pink building around a courtyard/concrete parking area.. pretty good restaurant next door..

The hotel we've mostly been talking about for the past several months is the Baja Cactus, adjacent to the Pemex station in El Rosario.

My friends have gone without my having "forced" any recommendations on them. They will have a good time regardless. I am often heard to say: "You can't call it an adventure if there's no uncertainty". They have a home on the mainland, and speak the language...they'll be just fine. Thanks again.

San Carlos motel and others in that area...

vgabndo, The San Carlos is new and okay. Some noise from highway, but not too bad. Prices are around 30 dollars, I recall. You will find it on the left side as you head south through San Quintin. There is another on the right side called Chavez Motel, which has been there for 30+ years that I know of, and has just been remodeled...nice comfortable, but very plain rooms, hot water, sat. TV, cafe next door for coffee early, and a rate of less than 30 dollars back in November, 04. Has a good gaurded parking lot..important in that area.

The other mentioned motels, Cielito Linda, Old Mill, and another are all 'off-road' throught a muddy quagmire right now. Aviod those until it's dry..although it will still be very bumpy. SLOW going at best. If you love good crab flavored with paprika at a cheap price...make the drive to Cielito Linda's and see if that pot-bellied Vietnamese pig is still rooting around in the bar. Buy him a Pacifico for me.
Old Mill Hotel and bar is okay. But it's chilly out there. Better there in spring and summer.
'The one next door' almost killed us in an electrical fire there year's ago. You couldn't pay me enough to go back.

I think some posters thought you meant a long ways south of San Quintin, and if so, then stay at Baja Cactus in El Rosario. Very Good.

When we cross the border late, we've been staying on the beach at Ceilito for the past ten years or so. Have occasionally taken some nice clam feeds from those sands.

I'll bet we give Baja Cactus a try this year. (Hard to sleep in a Suzuki Sidekick):lol:

We've only been at San Nicolas for 10 years.

Times have certainly changed! However, with the hurricanes in the last few years, there have been times when that was NOT a Cadillac road!!

I'm not sure but the name of the guy who has been developing San Sebastian may be Cunningham (Jorge) I think he is a Mexican national who is a Contractor in San Jose, CA.

Its still a nice place to park a boat if the northerlies get ya, but there is only one Mexican family left. That's why we chose to try to be part of San Nicolas. More and better fresh water, and many more Mexican families to get to know and love.

We will be passing by your place on about the 30th. I hope we can stop and say "Hey"!

Somewhere I have pictures of a time at Cielito when we parked our camper van down by where the "RV Park" is now. The tide came, broke through the dunes, and in the morning I had two wheels in salt water. Not much of a problem really, but a real "holy sh*t" wake up!

I know this is a little late but if anyone is interested in the future, the Motel San Carlos south of San Quintin is located along the shores of the inner bay just south of the Old Mill near the Old Pier (Muelle Viejo). There are signs from the highway showing where to turn off. It is a quaint little place and a pretty decent value at $30-35 a night as all rooms face the water. The (San) :) Carlos that runs the place now is the eldest son with the same name as the man who ran the place for years and he appears to be every bit as decent a human being as his father was. My family has had many pleasant memories there.

We passed through El Rosario in October and stayed at the hotel next to Mama Espinozas. The Baja Cactus was undergoing major reconstruction and really looked like a dump from the outside. Probably not a fair review, the insides may have been nice. The motel next to Mama's was excellent, with 2 comfy queen beds and cable TV (3 or 4 channels, heh-heh) and ran about $45 a night. No sleep for us as both places were next to the hill coming into town; Mexican truckers love the Jake Break and wound their rigs up tight when they came into town. Bring earplugs...

I have to confess that, although I have stayed there many times, I've never eaten there. I have heard that the food is very good though. I tend to eat at roadside stands and small places in town that are packed with locals (if I'm not cooking that day's catch).

I can personally vouch for the nice people and clean, simple rooms with a view of the water though.:D
