Geo-Caching in Baja

bajaguy - 1-12-2015 at 10:32 AM

Anybody done it???

David K - 1-12-2015 at 10:43 AM

Yup... we found the first one hidden in Baja, back in 2001. I hid 4 in Baja in 2001 and 1 is still there and 'active'.

From VivaBaja.com:

The gang finds the 'geocache' hidden by Timothy Walker and his friend Robert. See the photos of when they hid it on http://www.timsbaja.com/. What is a 'geocache', you ask? Go to http://www.geocaching.com/ for the details of this GPS hide-and-seek sport.

David K puts his Viva Baja bumper sticker in the cache bucket for the next person to find. Christopher is looking for something cool to take. A log book is in the cache to sign and note the details of the day's search. When we returned home, I posted the find on the geocaching web site. We were the first ones to find this one!

I have one cache found in San Felipe, and many on my list for our next trip. I love caching and can't wait to plant some in some of our favorite Baja places!!

Bajaguy-- are you a geocacher? I really love it and if I am going somewhere I search the geocaching website for favorites. Like yesterday I dropped my wife off for an app., got the geoapp up and saw one with 8 favs .2 miles away. It was a fake sprinkler head about 8 feet from a fire hydrant which served as a great decoy.
I`m trying to figure one out in Virginia City. Have the cowboys figured but can`t convert to cords!!
Check it out--- http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2WCZD_tall-in-the-saddl...

A fake sprinkler for a geocache? That's rich! How many real sprinklers are removed (and water wasted) looking for the fake? LOL

Are there photos of it?

I was into geocaching when it was pretty new, and my kids were small at the age they liked going hiking with daddy (up to about age 13 or the year 2003). When they prefered to hang with friends their own age, my geocaching activity really dropped off.

Here is a sample of one of my geocaches that was never found. It was next to the top of La Cuesta de la Ley (the grade on the El Arco/ San Francisquito road): http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC3103_central-baja-view?...

Now here is another one I hid in 2001 that has had many visits, a few miles off the Bahia de los Angeles highway at a historic site: http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6CB_viva-baja-2?guid=5a...
