I'll be flying in to Los Cabos airport next week, and will likely stop for essentials (read: beer and tequila) in San Jose del Cabo. I've noticed that while beer is sold in cans virtually everywhere, it doesn't seem to be available in bottles from either supermarkets or smaller stores. I've only seen it at restaurants or bars. Is this by design, or have I just been going to the wrong places?

Clearly I need to be more persistent! So far I've gone to the Mega store in San Jose del Cabo, which only had beer in cans, and some much smaller stores in and around Todos Santos.

IF you make it to Costco, just on the outskirts of Cabo, they sell beer in bottles and they "may" be non returnables.

You have 2 different brands of Depositos.... Tecate and Pacifico. The TKT in bottles are usually throw-aways; the Pacifico bottles you pay a deposit on, and KEEP THE RECEIPT. They usually won't refund your deposit money without it (that insures people from stealing your empties for refund cash).

I'm a firm believer in the Pacifico system, always travel with an empty case in my trailer to turn in for a full one any time needed. The cost of the beer is cheaper in the long run, and you don't see smashed Pacifico glass at the sides of the road, or even worse, on beaches. I still have a case of TKT returnables, but haven't seen a TKT Deposito in many years now..... I think the last was in Kino 7 or 8 years ago.

In New England I'm partial to IPAs, but when in Baja, it's Pacifico for me. If I can find it in bottles, that would be my preference taste-wise.

Thanks for the tip about keeping the receipts for getting the deposit refunded. We're already used to doing it, so it's not too much of a burden given the environmental benefits.

Beer in cans is fresher and preferable to bottles. At least so says my Baja travel buddy. BTW he is a retired VP at Miller.

no question about it, light is the culprit. even craft beers are opting for aluminum to keep their beer fresh.
that said, folks just love the feel and look of a bottle, simple as that! :yes:

Plus, BAJA RECYCLING! Just toss it out the windows, let the locals do the rest. Easy peasy, the rest of the TRASH stays put.

Fresh beer? Budwieser invention. Bottled beer? ONLY. TKT + CAN = QUOORS. (BTW, I wrote "but-t-wipe-r" for BW, and got ''tush-cushioner ~!!! Now that's funny right there!)

Deposito = cheaper beer, darker bottles = fresher beer, and doesn't warm up as quickly between the thighs!

PLUS, you can put your thumb over the top of a Pacifico to keep the flies out. PLUS-PLUS...... show me a warm can of Pacifico compared to a warm bottle if, (in the Olden Daze) one sipped a non-iced beer, as was the local customs... canned? I don't freaking THINK so........

Seem to recall, bottled beer goes skunky if exposed to alot of light. Hard to keep in the dark whilst outbacking in Baja. Buddha is right. Canned is gonna be fresher. I prefer cans while camping A: Space and weight savers. B: Minimizes trash out there if I stomp them down. 2 cents worth of sagely Baja crusty advice: Dont forget your neoprene can cozy.

Plus quads, coolers and bottles almost guarantee fewer beers to drink and a messy cooler. Also I understand if you buy you beer cold and let it go warm and re-cool it turns bad. So buy a lot of warm beer and cool as needed.

bottles taste way better as long as they are handled correctly
no wonder your friend doesn't work for miller any longer...I wonder if he ever tasted the hot beer right in the plant

miller lite my favorite but I used to get it directly from the brewrey

Actually my brewer friends insist that light is the enemy of beer, that is why they say cans stay 'fresher'.
