Transporte Terrestre from Tijuana airport to the US?

oladulce - 1-17-2015 at 10:55 AM

Has anyone used Transporte Terrestre shuttle service for a ride from Tijuana airport, across the border to a US destination (in our case, to the San Diego airport)?

Pros, cons, reviews, tips, or any info about this company's service would be appreciated.

I use them quite often. It's best to reserve in advance. It should be around $70 (at least that's what it is to my home in North Park) regardless of the number of passengers. The only downside if you have to make a connecting flight in SD is the amount to time it may take to cross the border. Allow plenty of time.

PS - they cross at Otay. They will drop you off at the pedestrian line and meet you on the other side at First Bank (a two block walk from the CBP building).

The TJ route isn't bad if you aren't schlepping luggage. The pedestrian line is narrow and congested and getting on and off the trolley and the bus with luggage is a PITA.

The bus and trolley sound great Bob but according to the Metro-rider rules, we'll have more more bags than they allow on the bus or trolley. We're trying a new sport and will be traveling with a lot of gear.

danaeb- thanks for confirming they are legit. We have several hours before the flight leaves San Diego so hopefully all will go smoothly. They quoted $95 for the trip from the airport in TIJ to SAN. About the same as most quotes I got for just the US portion of the trip from Otay to the SD airport.

Oladulce - when you get into the baggage claim area in TJ, there is a bank of windows for various cross-border transportation agents. Look for their window to pay and get your receipt. After you get into the airport lobby, go out the front doors and turn right. Walk down the sidewalk (there's a lot of construction going on) until you see the line of of the yellow and white Transporte Terrestre taxis. Present your receipt and they'll direct to you to the shuttle vans. Have a great trip!

Correction- the quote is $85 for transportation from the Tijuana Airport to the San Diego airport.

Return trip will be $95 from a downtown San Diego area hotel back to the Tijuana airport.

I made reservations, we'll see how it goes. They responded promptly to email.
