I guess this is an zenith kind of moment. We get to follow the "Pig Calling Contest". Hopefully they can tell the difference between our music and the finest of Pig Calling. SSSSUUUUUUEEEEE!

They would love a Challenge from Asuncion, the pigs here are carefully breeded and genetically selected from a very special process. There are not just plain piglets, bear in mind. And guess what, the winner automatically turns into Carnitas.

Thank you for the head's-up, Pescador. The annual pig race is always a fun event...and a great fund-raiser for the Rotary Club, which does so much good work in the Mulege area.

Here's a couple old photos of the first pig race held at the Serinadad in 1987.



The 1987 winner. Whereabouts today is in the Cold Case files. ;)



And again in 2011 at the basketball court near the downtown square. Great times and if you're lucky enough to pick the winner, you're lucky enough.

It is right in the center of town, just south of the town squaret.

We look forward to seeing you there. Gates open at 11:00, races start at 12:00 and great music to follow - it is an all around good time!

I have heard it both ways. Concha meaning shell, like a band shell or stage area. Further south, it is generally referred to as a concha like a court. In our area, I have heard it called both ways by the locals.

In San Bruno, where I live, we have a cancha where they play basketball, but we also have a concha attached where the bands play music.

So either way, come to the basketball court south of the main plaza, or just follow the massive crowds.

Well, everything is ready, the pigs have been selected and chosen, they even wired up the concha or Concho for music and the big event of the year is ready to unfold. You really do not want to miss this event. They have T-shirts, they have special breed racing pigs at the ready, and we have actually tuned up our guitars.

If you have noticed what looked like a goat herder running the trails west of Mulege, it was actually the pig herder who has been training the Racing Pigs to make the fast break. Endurance is a little less important so they have been working on the fast start.

I have some great ideas about which pig to buy for the races and am willing to disclose what I might know about favored pigs (for the right price of course).
