The big event is coming up in a couple of weeks. This year it will be in Ventura.
My co-author Max Kurillo and I will be giving presentations (Power Point slide show lectures. Max is the first and I am the last!

That CMSA has openly invited discussion on the Baja California missions is quite a step for them. Max and I (through our book) have strongly advocated
that ALL the California missions should be included in any California mission discussion, not just those north of a border made long after the
missions were abandoned!
The California missions were founded by three Catholic Orders for Spain, and the last couple for Mexico... 48 in all. They were ALL California
Missions, even though years later, California was divided up and renamed.
Depending on David Richardson's lecture, I will be doing the history of Mission Santa Maria (which includes Calamajue) and/ or Mission San Fernando de
Velicata. Max will be lecturing on the wooden bells of the Ventura mission. See links above for other lecture topics and events.

I have emailed and conversed over the phone with David Richardson (who is doing a talk on Santa Maria mission), and I have decided that I would do a
PowerPoint on the next mission, San Fernando, which was Junipero Serra's first California mission. The event is in 7 days.
I will share the slide shows on both Santa Maria and San Fernando with you guys!

When we return from Ventura, I will share the San Fernando mission presentation here for those who won't be in attendance.
The focus is on how in one generation a nearly full size adobe church nearly vanishes down to a couple of stubs, with photos dating back over 100
years and side-by-side comparisons. I will also be showing the loss of the visita church of San Juan de Dios, destroyed by a farmer in 2008.
Mission San Fernando was the first place I camped on my first (no parent along) Baja trip, at age 16, and it was the last mission I was at in 2014
when I flew over it in a helicopter for Cameron Steele's Trail of Missions tour on CBS Sports.
