San Diego to East Cape May 12th

HavnFun - 2-2-2015 at 03:44 PM

I am dragging a boat to the East Cape crossing the border May 12th AM. Will start back May 19th. Looking to convoy and/or a buddy boater plus any advice on places to stay, launch boat and anything else you may suggest.

Bringing a boat all the way to the E Cape for 1 week does not make much economic sense, IMO. TIP and fuel considerations alone would make it wiser to motor down with no trailer in less time, rent a panga with a guy who knows what is currently happening, and enjoy yourself.

good advice. The trip started out with a BOLA destination. The trip has grown. Any advice on which hotel to use?

hola Havnfun---x4---however , if you are hellbent on doing this short of trip----some tips---stay at Palmas de cortez--they tractor-launch for a small fee--- if your boat is bigger then a 10 ft. tin boat , its is unlikely you will be able to self-launch --very soft sand--you will still find it very advisable to clean out your brake drums after launching-- you WILL have sand in your brake drums--assuming they are not disc brakes which only need a rinse off---so what size is your boat ?? etc.

20' tin boat. This is the reason I wanted to tow it down. To find a place to launch and experience it. Plan to return in the fall and stay longer. Also want to launch out of San Carlos in Mag Bay and run out to Thetis Bank in prep for a November trip.

trailer has disc brakes. boat not too heavy, launch weight about 2300#.

So four days driving? leaves very little opportunity for fun. LA Bay or Sta Rosalia would be my choice. I'm sure you'll have some kind of fun regardless.
