Is Los olivos campground closed? Alternatives?

Whale-ista - 2-6-2015 at 02:39 AM

I heard that Los Olivos campground in San Quintin is closed. Not sure for how long.

How is Don Eddies as an alternative? Ok for tent camping?

Other suggestions welcome.

The Los Olivos website lists a bit of information and contact numbers.
http://www.losolivosrvpark.com/?page_id=60

It was open in November, has been open the past 5 years when we pass through in November and March.

Was open late December 2014.

The owner of Los Olivos is a Baja Nomad 'Marita-Los Olivos', her last post was last September: http://forums.bajanomad.com/viewthread.php?tid=75384&pag...

When folks have asked me for safe camping recommendations here in the San Quintin area, I would suggest Los Olivos and Don Alvaro's place out here at La Chorera. If Los Olivos is closed, you can find a very safe place to camp on the beach out here just a half mile south of us at Don Alvaro's. He can accomodate tent camping and RV's although there are no hookups available. Very nice spot on the beach and he usually can provide fresh oysters, clams, lobster and fish if requested.

For those of you on facebook you can see some photos here:

I've camped here on several occasions and it was nice. Huge beautiful beach that is usually secluded. Very secure campground.

Thanks for the suggestions. While whalewatching last month, I heard that Olivos was closed- not sure of details why, if it is temporary or....

So I'm looking for safe alternatives for camping, with showers/bathrooms, and ideally near the water. And withiing walking distance of good places to eat would be great!

Ha! Asking too much?

Saw the Don Eddie ad in Discover Baja newsletter- anyone know much about their facilities for tent/RV camping? Good food?

Thanks for the helpful Information!

Thanks. I see their signs every trip, haven't checked them out.
Any restaurants nearby?

I used to also suggest there but have heard a couple reports recently of campers having problems at Pabellon including theft and assault.

Sad but I don't send my friends there anymore...

Sorry to hear about El Pabellon..... that's been my go-to spot for almost 20 years. I'll pass it on.

I am at Jardines today and Los Olivos is open. The sign says closed Wednesday.(?)
The last few times I have stayed at pabellon It has not felt comfortable

Bajahowodd - 2-6-2015 at 05:56 PM

One of the benefits of staying at Los Olivos is that you can take a five minute(or less) walk to a really good restaurant at Jardines.

Bob53 - 2-6-2015 at 06:12 PM

But it's a long distance to the beach. But Jardines has the best food in town though in my opinion.

That's sad to hear. I actually haven't stayed there in about three years and never had any problems. I'll avoid that spot in the future.
