I must have good Baja karma. It's been so good to me and I've been good to her.

Thanks A-OK

:bounce:

Glad you got such a quick reply. I got mine 2 years ago after researching them on Nomad.

Just back from another bumpy trip with my Callen, to GN/Ojo de Liebre and back with side trips to Sta. Rosalillita and San Quintin. They are so well made- I sometimes worry my truck may fall to pieces after some of the bumps, potholes and washboards, but I'm pretty sure the Callen will survive.

If it works out, it would be my 5th. I went with a Four Wheel pop up about 6 years ago for the family. It's been a great camper. We have a place now and the pop up won't get SENTRI approval. The kids are getting bigger and are going to want their own tents. So, full circle...again.

are you selling the popup?

And any idea why no SENTRI with popups, but Callen's are ok?

SENTRI is so strange and arbitrary...

I went thru SENTRI renewal w/the Callen last year, and just returned tonight via SENTRI at Otay. The guard took a long time peering in the back, but didn't ask for me to open it... last time the guard asked "how long have you had the camper?" but, again, didn't open it up.

I think I'm selling the pop up. Big trip planned up north this summer, then, sell it.

Any consealed spaces in campers are not allowed for SENTRI. I have a Callen on my '92 Dodge 2WD and it was approved, no problem. It's wide open inside.

My CALLEN camper is now 33 years old and still going strong. It's on it's second pickup now. It has endured many of the worse roads in Baja, as well as all over southern Utah and the red-rock country and I never have had one problem with it.

Great choice!!!

OK- that makes sense. no built-in cabinetry etc.

Please post here if/when you sell the pop=up. I've been looking for one.

As for storage/sleeping in Callens- I found some lightweight plastic shelves at Costco, and their dimensions (18" wide, 36" long) make them perfect: 2 end-to-end make a sleeping platform on drivers side, with a wider padded platform on top. The 3 others provide storage space on passenger side. They are tall and wide enough that I can slide heavy items underneath, store lighter items up above.

I'm thinking of buying another set to pop up under a canopy/palapa when doing extended camping. Easy to break down/set up.

And unlike previous configuration, with these, everything is "visible" when the border guards look inside.

So far this year: 2 whale lagoon trips, 2 3-min SENTRI waits at 6 PM on a weeknight. Feeling like I've finally figured this border crossing stuff out...
