Road condition from San Isidro to the Comondu.

We attempted this trip a few years back with our Jeep Rubicon and found it impassable. We would like to try it again next week.
Any new information would be appreciated.

Did it last week on motorcycles, I wouldn't try it in a 4 wheel vehicle. It, like anything else is doable if you know what you are doing and your vehicle is up to it. I didn't see any evidence of 4 wheeled vehicle traffic and only one faint motorcycle track for the majority of the way.

Did you take any photos David? Were they still working on regrading it on the San Isidro end, reported last year? How is the new paved (concrete?) road from Comondu to the south to Francisco Villa, if you went that way?

We found the same thing as bushpilot but that was years ago.
Been a few years since we did it in the Bronco. Major difficulty. My wife drove and I spotted her. Had to leave the washed out road is several places and struggle thru the desert. Worst part was after the summit heading north from Comondu. After a short distance the road was great. The hard section took a couple of hours. Even stock a Rubicon would have done the tough place in less than one hour.
I would not do it again unless I get a report that something has been done to the road.

DK, I took photos that day but don't think I have any for that section, it was getting dark when we headed north out of Comondu and I wanted to get as far as I could while I could still see. We started the day from Highway 1 across from the Agua Verde turn off and went north through San Javier. We didn't go west out of Comondu so I can't comment on the paved road. The road coming out of San Isidro South was pretty bad as I recall, if they were fixing it they must have stopped.

Just drove from Loreto to Comondu, then used the new road west. Totally paved and in good shape. A bit of a footnote......Someone built a new house next to the "Horno" on the way to Comondu. Sad but true, they tore down the old clay ruins of the old house to do it. Brought tears to my eyes.

drove san isidro to comondu to san Javier last year in 2wd diesel with 35 inch tires. slow going and would not do it again. rough road and very slow going.

We ran that section this week as part of a loop out of Loreto.. 18 miles took one hour for a group of 6 UTVs.. Rocky sections, but there are some fast sections in the run..:cool:
