Ocotillo, El Centro, and Anza Borrego

Ateo - 2-23-2015 at 08:38 PM

Gonna be short here as it's time for dinner.

Headed to El Centro for black belt testing. She passed.

Then to Salvation Mtn, Salton Sea, Ocotillo Wells for some 4X4 and then thru Borrego on our way home.

Headed back to the same area the following weekend.

Saw 2 major helicopter operations about to happen in the last 15 minutes of being in Ocotillo. One was someone we saw driving dangerously fast on blind curves in the dust and 2 minutes later he crashed into a young kid on a dirt bike.

Nice, we had a blast out that way a few weeks back. I'm doing a few ultra races soon as well. Love it there.

Flowers are starting....

The 2015 Spring annual wildflowers show is underway with displays along the Coyote Canyon jeep trail from the north end of DiGiorgio Road to Desert Gardens (beyond which the driving becomes more of a problem).
Right now, the star of the show is Peirson's Brown-eyed Primrose (Camissonia claviformis ssp. peirsonii), a white flower sometimes with a little pink in the Borrego Valley, yellow in the southern desert. It's safe to say that thousands of these plants can be seen over a 4-mile stretch.
In Desert Gardens, the Brown-eyed Primrose plants are joined by a cousin, California Evening Primrose (Camissonia californica) in numbers too large to count. Also noted in Desert Gardens were Forget-Me-Nots (Cryptantha angustifolia), Desert Dandelion (Malacothrix glabrata), and Desert Chicory (Rafinesquia neomexicana).
