Does anyone know anything about a large home 20 clicks south of loreto in or near San Cosme. Owners have contacted us (we think) but in searching the web we can find nothing about this place.

Go to www.puertodesancosme.com/Main.html San Cosme is close to Aqua Verde..

Oooops!! I just tried going to the site, but no longer available. Sorry.. But, I have visited that home several times over the past few years and it is beautiful.. On the road to Aqua Verde.

At this point go ahead and turn on your rumor/bs filter as what follows is word of mouth to me;

I understand the owner to be an offroad racer and former resident of southern CA, he drives the AV road at a good clip in a beautiful and highly modified Ford Raptor. He is also responsible for some of the road improvements (stone/concrete) on the AV dirt grade. I believe he also owns a mid sized sport fishing boat occasionally anchored in front of the house. I have seen the truck race by and the boat anchor in person.

My understanding is that he envisions a small marina development just north of the house and the rumor goes that he was offering lots to gringos who would commit to building a lasting stone/brick home on said.

I have few details beyond that. Believe the name is Ross but not sure if first or last.

Stayed at the Rancho just before new years, and talked to a guy staying there for a bit, and pretty much sounds accurate, as far as the rumor I heard. Unlikely many would want to invest in something involving a long, rough, steep road that is rather out of the way to get to. Beautiful though. Maybe he's trying to unload it. Road wasn't looking so good after the hurricanes, though some of the concrete bridges were more or less intact.

My gal was a little sketchy as we drove down the road at night, looking for a place to call it a night. Very happy we came upon San Cosme. Beautiful place and experience, just wish we had more time...

Well thank you for the information, the last name is indeed Ross, not sure of first, but gives a better idea of whats going on there and about the owners, thanks again

Can y'all clarify - is this a place for paying guests?

mcnut - 3-4-2015 at 11:26 AM

No idea of citizenship but Ross speaks perfect english, 35ish and well groomed. I assume he's not worried about where his next meal ticket is coming from based on the house, boat (if his) and truck. I'm sure he burns 1/2 tank of premium gas just getting to the nearest Pemex and back with that thing.

Not your typical MX developer for sure, no big banner signs and entrance arch (with nothing beyond) destin to crumble. The impression I got was he was looking for folks willing build permanent structures (no palapas, trailer pads) in exchange for land. I have no idea in who's name the land would remain though I seem remember the term "lifetime".

Not sure if money is the motive or he is just looking for like minded folks that can help facilitate/sustain his dream location.

When we drove to Agua Verde in November, we were wondering about this place - it looked *really* nice from the road. Great to learn the story, who owns it. Google sat view of the place:

The view from the road, top of the hill - said house is out on that punta:

Found an interesting story about Ross and some legal problems he's encountered in Loreto. And some photos of his place:

A few years ago we met the architect who designed the place. He and his young wife and little kids were soaking in the hot spring north of the rancho.

I did a quick search and while not defending or standing up him, the article I found dated back to February 2010 so at least 4 years old.
The name of his boat is "Bad Company".

Looks like a dream home in a dream location.

fish101 - 3-5-2015 at 07:04 AM

Robert Ross has several fishing boats in Escondido at all times. One is "Bad Company"... At one time they were looking for investors for the San Cosme project. There is a separate house just above the larger one and was originally owned by Martin Cruz. The website for the project has been taken down, but had big plans at one time for a boat harbor. I have visited here several times in the past, however, the road leading into San Cosme isn't always in the best condition.

Usually called the Agua Verde Hot Springs, like the ones at Puertecitos, they are in the tidal zone mixing sea water with hot water... north from San Cosme along the cliff (at low tide) about a mile...

From BajaTaco's web page: http://www.bajataco.com/Baja/bajamap.html
