How about the Baja racing women, Heidi Steele for one?

Aletha Patchen and Judy Smith were some of the first women off road racers, and both were at Viva Baja, where we celebrated history and the people of Baja...

Judy Smith, John Howard, David K at Viva Baja 2 (2001)

Judy and John at Viva Baja 4 (2003)

Aletha Patchen in 2003 at Viva Baja 4.

Aletha and Marv Patchen at their desert home in 2005.

How about that, Desert Bull is a grandpa!

Here is Brittany in 2001 (on the left) with Bedman's wife (Emma) and daughter (Colleen)at the BBBB-1 party in Cielito Lindo....

We all went to Las Pintas the next day and Bedman's younger daughter was able to tell us what the petroglyphs were saying... very interesting!

Shelby Reid is the most glaring omision. She has won many races and is now in a Class 1 car. I spent an hour with her at the Marina Hotel the day before this years San Felipe 250. She had just been interviewed by CBS Sports. She is as charming as she is talented. Unfortunately, she blew her motor early in the race. She will be back.

Pompano - 3-6-2015 at 01:06 PM

Salud! Bless them, there has always been great women Off-Roading and Way-Off-Roading, but not always 'racing'. ;D

The common thread is being all Baja enthusiasts.

So true. Shelby just became the first female class 1 champion in the history of SCORE. Her son also just won his second consecutive SCORE class 10 championship.

We spoke to Nichole pitell-Vaughan at the B500 on the east side of Laguna Salada - I told her, when I get a new Tacoma, I want to do what she did to her truck: King/Total Chaos suspension, and innovative equipment tie-downs in what used to be the back seat. Actuated LED lights in the front. Fuel and tire rack in the back with purpose-built racks for everything else. MaxTrax mounted to the inside of the tailgate. I WANT one!

Sweet Tacoma!
