Need some experience answers if possible. Im towing down my 20' toy hauler to camp around the sea of cortes for a couple of months. It will be full
of the usual necessities , no atvs or mottos, just household, tools, tv, foods, etc,, needed for camping out.
Are there any requirements at the border ??
Its a 2007 if that matters, not sure if the days of bonds or temp permits are still in place ?? thx

Be certain that specific trailer is listed on the Mexican auto insurance policy of the vehicle that will be towing it; be sure to include the license

The only thing that is required is proof of ownership and registration - plates and paperwork. They might want to compare the papers with VIN, so make
sure you know where your VIN is. Usually it's on the front frame AND on a sticker inside (could be inside the cabinet), and it could be one more
sticker on the outside wall.
Insurance on travel trailer is not mandatory, consequently it doesn't matter whether it's listed on the pickup policy or not.

No, bond or TIP permit is not required in states Baja and Baja Sur.
Yes, they can try and tax you on your "stuff" like loose solar panels - i.e. not permanently mounted on the roof.
There is (normally) no need in running a generator in Baja if you have solar array upwards of 300-400W. The only thing that can not be powered with a
small solar is air conditioner. Though I've seen campers running a genny to charge their cell phone or watch TV, and this is with 500W solar on the
roof. When I asked "why", the explanation was too lengthy to be plausible, like dying batteries, too high current on idling inverter and so on. To
think of it, 2 months of daily generator = a pair of new batteries. Some people's thinking is impossible to understand unless you are a psychiatrist,
no kidding.

I disagree.
My policy clearly stated that any trailer being towed must be declared. Even if the trailer is not covered, any liability from an accident could fall
on the vehicle driver if the trailer is not on the policy.
Maybe Geoff or some other insurance professional could give us their opinion, but I am putting mine on the policy next trip!Alm - 3-15-2015 at 04:59 PM

Your truck policy is not required either. Though it is advisable to have it.
The question was about what is "required" at the border. Insurance for truck or trailer is not required. And, when truck is insured, it doesn't matter
for Mex border agents whether the trailer is listed on that policy.

My SUV is not covered, it is old enough that I am willing to roll the dice on replacing it versus higher premiums.
What I never want to have a problem with is having my liability coverage denied because a Mexican judge or police agency says that a trailer caused,
or added to the accident.

If you add a trailer to an already Mexican insured car... the insurance is VOID if there is an accident with the trailer attached!!!

WE have liver in Baja for 12 years full time I carry Liability only
I carry the liability policy that is referred to as Drivers license insurance. it covers anything I drive or tow as long as it has Current
Registration in the u s my ins. co of choice is MAPFRE I have used the same agent since living here they insure my home and any thing I drive. I
have never filed a claim so I cant relate any thing about their reliability and that's fine with me.
