Erendira to La Bocana coast road

TMW - 3-24-2015 at 12:16 PM

Is the coastal road or trail open from Erendira to La Bocana?
I have some friends doing a Baja ride and they will be on off road motorcycles. I remember someone mentioning that the route may have a locked gate. Any info appreciated.

No it's not.

There is a cement plant at Punta China, going south you will be turned back at the gate. We did it going north a few years ago on a Sunday. Had to jump a ditch and berm to get onto the cement plant road (they probably dug that out more the next week). Then had to talk the guard into letting us out through the gate. The road was severely deteriorated after Punta San Jose. Due to erosion it was more like single track in places than a road.

Most turn right at the T intersection when going north and take the road into Santo Tomas.

The road between the two, along the coast is the rough... The main road to La Bocana is graded 2WD stuff... leaves Hwy. 1 on the north side of the Santo Tomas valley. It will be signed for Puerto Santo Tomas and La Bocana.

It was locked at the concrete plant last trip. Would like to find a bypass.

Trail rider-
I have done the trip from santo tomas to Punta cabras if that is what you mean. I am looking specifically for a route from Punta San Jose to Punta santo tomas. Is that what you mean?

Isn't there also a locked gate at this place too?

Or is that on a different road? I'm sure DK can answer that.

You got it right Bob... the 'extraterrestrial landing base' in at San Juan de las Pulgas, halfway between Punta Cabras and Punta San Jose.

A friend of mine said there is a trail about 3-4 miles before the ocean that leads up a hill where there is a house and he pays the guy a couple of bucks to pass on his property. This bypasses the cement plant. He did not mention a gate at or near the church or what ever it is. He has been that way several times.

bajatrailrider is this the trail you are taking about?

I may have it wrong but on Google Earth I was able to follow a path that seems to fit what he said.

The Jct is where it comes from Erendira and/or Santo Tomas

Nice maps Tom... can you show the route around the space port?

Here's my photo of it from the helicopter, last June:

Yes it only rancho that has Drunk guy living there. You Only need give bottle tequlia. Its a road not trail, but there are many trails up there, some I have cut.As far as where the freaks compound is.Road goes around. To answer TL No,you go in before Santa Tomas. That area I have spent lots of time there on dirt bikes making trails. So going South on Highway 1 you would turn Rt (west) large canyon. You will see winding dirt road, going up.Also If owner is at Rancho (if you see pick up truck there) He is not dirt bike friendly, Stop talk to him, greet him,Ask to pass .Tell him you will ride slowly, and close all gates.
