anyone got a tourist card at the new Ensenada immigration location

tecatero - 3-26-2015 at 06:12 AM

Crossing at Otay, rather than TJ and Im thinking of getting tourist card at Ensenada immigration to avoid border mess,,,,,,,,towing a trailer as well

Bob and Susan - 3-26-2015 at 06:18 AM

i'm pretty sure the rule is get the card at the border

there's room to park at otay in secondary and immigration and bank right there

if you do go to Ensenada..."prepare for punishment"

TecateRay - 3-26-2015 at 06:42 AM

The Immigration office in Ensenada isn't new. It has been there for years and it's primary role is to service the "boat traffic" and those on the boats. In years past they would not issue visas/tourist permits if you drove down. Anybody have recent experience?

tecatero - 3-26-2015 at 07:58 AM

the office is fairly new, 2 years or so ?? no longer in the harbor area, but near the Honda dealer in town........Just last time I was at Otay at 7:00 all was closed

Someone did mention a new or another Ensenada INM office, not at the harbor here on Nomad, but when asked for the location, mums the word.

I certainly would not leave the border without one, if Ensenada is closed, are you going to drive 70 miles back north?

Otay like Tijuana, has a 24 hour border, and that means a 24 hour INM office... Maybe they were on a break or you need to find another door around back that is open? If the bank teller is closed, the INM officers have been given the ability to collect the fee, too. At the very worst, get the free 7 day FMM... and then try Ensenada.

The new crossing at TJ has lots of parking by the flag pole before you go through the inspection area. Plenty of room for a trailer.

sancho - 3-26-2015 at 09:08 AM

A few weeks back, was a post about an Imm checkpoint
so. of Ensenada, where Imm was checking fmm's, those
who didn't have one were told they were available in
Ensenada. No mention of fines.
.Me, I would get one at the border unless someoone here
can confirm getting one in Ensenada, that would be an
inconvienent start to a trip

agree. tj is really great crossing. super easy to park and get visa, and the roads leading from border to toll road are simple and fast to drive, way better and faster than tecate or otay routes

I have heard both versions......yes you can and no, you can't

The Ensenada INM office is not "new", it has relocated

On Ave Adolfo Lopez Mateo, between Soto and Balboa Streets, near the Honda dealer. It is a white building on the west side of Lopez Mateo, with a gate.....if you get to the Honda dealer, you went too far .....not much room for an RV, but I guess you could find parking on the street somewhere

then again, very recently a nomad reported he got his NEXT DOOR to the old immigration building across the street from the harbor, with zero difficulty! go figure?

Nomad Tunaeater got his FMM at the immigration office at the boat/ship area in Nov. At the first stop light when you enter Ensenada where the boats/ships are turn right it is about half way down on the right, white bldg. He also paid the officer there.

I have gotten one there too but they were NOT happy about it.....they stated that it was only for boaters - this was beaucoup years ago, obviously, since I am now a citizen.

Sir, to avoid border mess and get your card easily, you have to do exactly the opposite - go through TJ San Ysidro.

You park in the Declaration yard before the gates, get your card, and then go through the right-most gate, it is for buses and trailers and is wider than other lanes.

I also towed trailer through Otay, right-most lane, also no problems with parking or getting a card.

In Ensenada ANY location will be more difficult to park a trailer than at the SY or Otay, and likely more problematic to get a tourist card as well.

We just got our visa there Feb 8, 2015.

Some folks we know got their visas at the office across the street from Arjona two weeks ago. Said it was super easy.

Parking with a trailer near the IMN office at the harbor may not be so easy. It gets really congested down there at times. Get your stuff done at TJ.

Yup, I use the San Ysidro crossing and the new facilities make it super easy. Everything is new. Plenty of parking. Just make sure you get on the road going west to the Toll Road and Ensensada Rosarito after you get the visa. It's well marked, nothing difficult.

Avoid crossing during the weekday late afternoon early evening commuter rush.

The newly relocated Immigration Office is on Aldolfo Lopez Mateos between Pedro Loyola and Reforma. It shares a parking lot in the same office complex as Notario #1.
