Otay and TJ are crossings in busy urban areas. Certainly can be done but if you make a wrong turn you might get into a jam.
Tecate is country road territory. Easy.
It will be interesting to see what others think.

I have the same type of rig you have (43ft, towing) and after being cut off and forced into wrong lanes in TJ traffic, it is a nightmare getting back
on track in the city with nowhere to turn around. I have been using Tecate with far less problems. It seems many drivers in TJ wouldn't mind having a
fender bender with a big payday in mind.Bob53 - 3-27-2015 at 03:22 PM
With the new border crossing in place, San Ysidro is a piece of cake. I drive through there regularly in my RV towing a 14' trailer. Never had an
issue. SFandH - 3-27-2015 at 03:29 PM

As long as you're in the lane after the inspection booths that takes you west to the toll road. I know, it's well marked but if you miss it, you're
headed downtown.Fernweh - 3-27-2015 at 03:40 PM

It takes me only 7 min to get to the toll road......Udo - 3-27-2015 at 06:56 PM
IMHO:
I would do the crossing at Otay Mesa, and use the middle lane.
You drive straight down to the traffic signal, turn left. Then follow the two lane road to the Corridor 2000 to Rosarito. Get back on the toll road
just a little south of Puerto Nuevo.
& @ the same time save $12.00 (approx.) in tolls.

Thank you all for the helpful information.
Last March I crossed in San Ysidro, I was forced to back up in traffic and use the far right bus lane with Xray to get into Mexico.
Does anyone know if that is still the rule with a big rig.
It is certainly easier going to Ensenada that way depending on the time of day. Bob53 - 3-30-2015 at 12:12 PM

Yes, all RVs must use the far right lane and go through the Xray area. Alm - 3-30-2015 at 12:21 PM

Yes. Right-most lane for buses and RVs. Not the middle lane.
In SY it is also the right-most lane. It is wider than other lanes.
I wouldn't say that Otay and Coredor 2000 is "easier" than SY, or vice versa. Taking Quota highway to Ensenada from SY looked pretty easy to me. As
noted, SY is in urban area, so in theory there is a chance to make a wrong turn and end up in TJ streets rather than on Quota, but you have to be
really sloppy and distracted to do this. Follow signs to Quota, - I think it will be the left or middle lane after the right-most gate, while the
right lane is for TJ and Playas
